Connect Updates (26 Jun 2012)

Jun 26, 2012 11:01 PM

User Facing: Desktop

  • Improved the Group List pages by:
    • Making each list community specific. (Visiting "/connect/endpoint-management/groups" will display a list of only the Endpoint Management groups, not all the groups on Connect.)
    • Moving the list of groups you are a member of to a "My Groups" tab on each of the group list pages.
    • Adding a search widget to each group list page that allows you to search Connect for a specific group.
    • Adding the number of members in each group to the group list pages.
    • Indenting child groups under their parent on the group list pages.
    • Refactored the "helpful" score on forum list pages to better represent the helpful nature of a post.
    • Addressed an issue with blank event calendars in each community.
    • Addressed the issue that was causing all forum posts to be flagged as "solved" at random intervals.
    • Addressed a few issues with errant topic tags showing up in the developer section of the create form.
    User Facing: Mobile
    • Updated the mobile UI to properly handle the pop-up request forms implemented for Symantec Vision videos.
    • Fixed the groups widget on the content create form to be empty by default.
    Performance Wins
    • Reviewed and modified Akamai configuration so cached files -- that seldom or never change -- can live on the caching servers indefinitely.
    • Refactored the content filters on group home pages to use our high-performance Solr engine.
    Admin Facing
    • Updated user merge tool to properly merge userpoints from source account to target account.
    • Refactored the TA admin and TSE admin forms to be consistent for ease of use.

Thanks for the notes about the mobile issues.

We'll look into those this morning.

I found 'Normal' Connect site extremely slow and unresponsive the entire weekend with 'Gateway Timeouts' at times.

As a result, I chose to comment using Connect Mobile this morning. After posting successfully, I received another 'New Comment' screen with no link back to main forum screen.

I noticed the same as Marianne on my Android 2.1 phone using the built-in browser, in fact the whole Mobile site (at least Forums) is very broken and basically unusable now.

Seems latest updates added some text not meant for display to Connect Mobile post>

Example of opening post and reply using my BlackBerry OS 6.0.

Hi CRZ,

The issue you reported with the voting widgets was reported just a few comments ahead of yours.

And, oh by the way, you can use the "file attachments" tool at the bottom of each comment form to attach an image (auto-generated thumbnail that's linked to the original) to comments.

Thanks again for reporting issues you see.

Is it just me or does it look ... more weird and wrong now, stylistically?

(I'm using Firefox 13.0.1)

EDIT: Sorry, I'm too wide - you'll have to right-click and View to see it!  Or maybe I can shrink it...no, I guess I can't.

wrt the other 'issue' I noted & then corrected, newly implemented change doesn't appear to be across-the-board?

e.g.

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/toolutilities-backup-admin

has 3 replies & 2 helpful as far as the forum list is concerned, yet those 2 helpful have 2 thumbs-up each

Thanks for the note about the voting widget Andy.

I'll get the devs on that ASAP.

"Refactored the "helpful" score on forum list pages to better represent the helpful nature of a post"

Presumably this is what was mentioned on Chris's post ?

Can't see any change [***EDIT*** altho' *now*, an hour later, it appears to reflect the changes! ]
......apart from this which doesn't seem to be an improvement wink
