Data Center Security 6.5 Beta

Building great software begins and ends with you, our customer. By giving you visibility into our software and asking for your feedback, advice, and suggestions, we deliver better software solutions to help you solve your security needs.

Symantec will be releasing a new version of our Data Center Security (DCS) solution in the first half of calendar year 2015. DCS version 6.5 will include an enhanced architecture, deliver a web-based unified console, include support for virtual computing environments and support policy based security controls in an integrated offering.  DCS 6.5 delivers the protection capability to take control of your IT environment by coordinating threat management and collaborative security on virtual workloads.  Additionally DCS 6.5 provides new software defined security functionally to create and orchestrate multi-product security polices in response to changes in your Data Center. A key component is our focus for allow you flexibility, usability, and simplicity via our completely new management console. The new console is built upon a fully instrumented set of REST API’s to enable security automation in an agile world.  We have also built into DCS 6.5 our security orchestration functionality which will allow you to define security policy objectives, manage these policies throughout your virtual data center, and monitor exposures to your IT environment over time.

We are inviting you to take the opportunity to participate in our DCS 6.5 Beta program with first previews beginning in October 2014.  By participating in the previews and testing for DCS 6.5 by installing DCS 6.5 Beta in a non-production part of your environment, you will be able to experience first-hand the benefits of our newly streamlined architecture, including:

Significant additions for server security / virtual server security:

  • Network Based IPS and application centric protection for many data center applications
  • RESTful API support for additional platforms and integration
  • VM in-guest support
  • Monitor and harden OpenStack systems
  • Support for AWS including RESTful API’s to automate security

Significant flexibility with our new web-based console:

  • Common Administrator tasks such as license management, notification via SNMP or SMTP, Live Update, vCenter, NSX,
  • Roles-based improvements in the new console to aid account registration, roles mapping, and new task based user interface
  • Completely new dashboards and panels, editable panels and filters as well as ability to create custom panels
  • Web Portal console with ability to view the Health and overall security status of your virtual IT environment

 High flexibility via policy based security orchestration:

  • Virtualization platform & security product support
  • Security policy provisioning management for the SDDC
  • Security response and remediation

To participate in the October DCS 6.5 Beta program you must meet the following requirements:

  • Able to download and install an ISO disc image in your environment via supported web browser (FireFox, Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer current versions).
  • Have vCenter 5.5 installed and in production in your IT environment (For DCS: SA)
  • Have VMware NSX v6.1 (or higher) installed in non-production testing &/or in production in your IT environment (For DCS: S)
  • Submit feature requests and defect information via SymBeta forums prior to the key deadlines
  • Test key use cases for the product as documented in the Beta guide
  • Located in countries not under international embargo / restricted access legislation (Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria, Belarus, Cuba, and Russia)

There will be multiple opportunities beginning in early October 2014 through to the end of February 2015 to participate:

  1. In mid October our first customer Beta image will be available for registered users to download.
  2. In mid December through to February customers will be able to install a copy of the Beta release in their environment. (Please see separate Beta announcemnt with requirements and functionality)
