I have just started a new job in a new place with new people. We have a 16 blade HP server to migrate all services to in the neat future. As of now, multiple services are running on the same servers with no (nada, zip, zero) redundancy. They know it, and they have been trying to get it up but DIACAP has taken all their time. I will chronicle my trials and tribulations on my journey to migrate the Console services and images to a new blade.

Well, I started this new job thinking I was going to be able to jump right in. Boy was I wrong. I knew they were still running 2K3 Server and we have gotten 2 new sets of blade servers (16 each). I suggested we upgrade (DoD has already purchased the 2K8 software, we just needed a copy) instead of building 32 servers with old OS software. Recieved a lot of push back, but I continued to push.

So I have finally gotten a copy and get to push a copy to an unused blade (only one is handling services as of today). Hopefully all goes well with the setup. The SAN is installed and SQL server is being built as we speak. Maybe I can get this done this week.....I'll report when I can.

So, I have finally (re)-built the Exchange Server and the WUG server and the services are running spectacular on their new hardware. Time for the Symantec Ghost to get some attention. Here is the nitty:
Server 2008 Enterprise Edition x64
Ghost Console (v11.0.0.1502) - I know it is old, but it is on a closed loop network. Hopefully I can get them to upgrade.
ProLiant BL460c G1 w/ quad-core Intel Xeon 2.5GHz and 16GB of RAM

Yes, it is an EXTREME overkill for this service but I didn't argue. :-)

So I put my base install of Server 2k8 (which has DoD STIG compliance built in) and configured my NICs. I am backing up the database on the old server now. I probably won't start the migration until Monday the 4th. What a way to ring in the new year!
