does norton anti 2008 stop autorun?

Jan 22, 2010 06:36 PM

A question.
does norton antivirus 2008 stop autoruns viruses on external media before they actually run?
i get the notification from norton in the taskbar but my fear is the virus has already executed then norton notifies me.
i can be wrong, maybe norton stops the autorun virus from executing and then notifies me.
any help would be great. thanks.

thanks for the quick reply.
actually after norton notified me that there was a trojan on the cd i inserted,
i did a little research and found that it is a good idea to turn off autoplay so i did using powertoys.
thanks again, it's nice to know my pc is somewhat safe.

When Windows enumerates your external media, our Auto protect also act in the kernel level checking what Windows is checking.
Hence if we already have a signature for that malfiles, yes Norton will pick it up before it runs.
As best practise, best to disable Windows autorun as it can promote more bad than good.
