I’ve never worked on an assembly line, but every time I picture it, I remember the hiliarious ILove Lucy episode where she’s eating chocolates off of a fast-moving conveyor belt. I’m always amazed that in the real world, a row of people (or machines), each doing some isolated job, can pop out a complex product at the end of the line, without creating chaos.

Switzerland has always seemed like a calm, safe place to me. It seems kind of aloof from the digital hullabaloo of nations like China or Russia or even the US. So it wasn’t all that surprising when I read that security threats in Switzerland have historically been lower than in these other nations.

A friend of mine was lucky enough to backpack through Europe after college, and she wound up on the Italian island of Sardinia. Sardinia has some of Europe’s rockiest and most beautiful coastline, and also some of its oldest ruins, which go back at least 7,000 years.
