EMC Documentum backup procedure
Updated: 22 Jul 2009 | 4 comments
I was really shocked when I learned that EMC Documentum (Content Management solution) does not allow you to put itself into "online backup mode".
As we used Documentum with an Oracle database, and your content storage and DB should be backed up at the same time to ensure the consistency.
But the problem of implementaion of "hot backup" is obvious: we have to freeze the DB with metadata prior to backup of the filesystem. So what is the solution?
The key is here: perform regular Oracle hot backup and start fs backup from a notification script. This can lead to discrepancies between your content storage and metadata, but your Documentum admin will be able to delete all unnecessary files which were appeared after the DB backup.

Another Solution to Your Problem
The solution works seamlessly with traditional enterprise solutions such as Symantec Veritas NetBackup, and performs backups as often as every 15 minutes to reduce data loss windows. As an added bonus, it provides granular recovery functionality that enables you to quickly recover one, several, or thousands of objects back into the repository, in their original states, with no Documentum downtime. You can find more information on how the product helps with hot Documentum backup at www.cya.com.
Hi, Is CYA HotBackup or
Hi,
Is CYA HotBackup or SmartRecovery integrated with netbackup to perform hot online backup of EMC Documentum or it is an independent tool to make hot backup of documentum.
Currently I'm using netbackup 7.1 to perform server backup but client is putting emphasis on making backup through cya hotbackup, so would that be integrated with netbackup to make online backup.
