Endpoint Virtualization Community is Live!

Jun 17, 2010 04:46 PM

UPDATE!! We've been toiling busily over the past few weeks, testing and tweeking code, then testing some more. It's time to pull back the curtain and and introduct the newest member of the Connect family - the Endpoint Virtualization community. With all the testing we did behind the scenes, there is bound to be some surprises here and there (I've already found a few) and over the next few days we'll be sprucing things up. If you see something that doesn't belong here or looks a little odd, send me a private message and I'll take care of it.

Thanks for your patience and welcome to the new community - I'm baking everyone cookies!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The time is finally here and in the coming weeks Endpoint Virtualization will be moving to its own, dedicated Connect community. As with every move, there is preparation involved… We’ve been packing and labeling boxes, saying good-bye to the neighbors, notifying the post office; a thousand little details that make every move successful. And now we’re notifying you!

We aren’t going far though, we’ll still be right here on Connect. Right now we’re in the process of testing to make sure it will be a smooth transition with little or no inconvenience for you.

For updates and the latest information about the big move watch this space. Feel free to post any questions or comments about the move here as well. In the mean time I’m off in search of more packing tape…

As virtualization is becoming increasingly more important to organizations, we’ve noticed that many times those interested in Endpoint Management and those interested in Virtualization have increasingly different needs. We are choosing to make this change now because doing so provides a great opportunity for Virtualization to continue to grow and develop. As a result the Endpoint Management community will have content that is focused solely on Endpoint Management.

I would be interested to hear the reasoning for pushing virtualisation into its own community.

First Symantec/Altiris confuses us to go to a very confusing site called Connect and mix everything around.

And now you're telling us you're starting the mixer again, just to keep us awake?

It is now many years later, but I'm still homesick to the good old Juice site.

Due to this confusing site my activity on this site went to a complete halt, I just recently started to join in again, but the motivation went down the drain again.

Can someone elaborate this topic. Actually dis disussion is going over my mind.

So you are moving but staying in the same place. I am more confused than ever.
Are you saying in fact, that Endpoint Management and Virtualisation will become
Endpoint Management
Endpoint Virtualisation

ie two separate "containers" for content that was previously in one "container"

Could you explain in words of one syllable, what actual benefits this will bring, as these are eluding me - or of course I have totally misunderstood what the move is all about.

Sorry for any confusion that may have caused - everything will still be here in Connect! Hope that clears things up smiley

Scot,
First, I hope I'm understanding your correctly.  Secondly, I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but what would be the value of standing up a new site?  Why create yet another domain/community just for Virtualization?  Following that logic, why not create new sites for all the backup products, Altiris, Security, etc?  I think the goal with Connect was to bring all Symantec enterprise applications under one home.  Yes it can get a bit crowded for the uninitiated, but I don't see the sense in standing up an entirely new site, with all the additional overhead.

We are all going to need to work hard to get content to justify our own site.

Jun 18, 2010 11:22 AM

...to make sure that all the content currently marked for any of the Symantec Endpoint Virtualization products will end up in the new community where it belongs.

@Ohozone, what's about the workspace and user history like blogs, articles, comments ?

Just a comment about this migration , about the new endpoint virtualization community , the Juice time come back again.  :-)

In any case, good luck for this migration ! ( in Italian , buona fortuna ! )

Paolo

Just to remember everybody that connect once started with Juice, and that Juice was all about SVS. Yep the main factor in endpoint virtualization
