Enterprise Vault 10.0.3 cumulative hotfix 1 release
Last night I read a note about the release of Enterprise Vault 10.0.3 Cumulative Hotfix 1. It's actually not just another release that can be ignored, it's quite important. In the note is this text:
Attachment content may not be indexed in certain circumstances when indexes with legacy data are being upgraded
Now at face value it doesn't seem terribly important, but an associated technote gives more weight to the text:
Symantec Corporation has identified an issue with a storage component of Enterprise Vault called StorageCrawler.exe, where attachment properties for items archived by Enterprise Vault 8.0 and later may not be indexed correctly and therefore not searchable. Compliance Accelerator and Discovery Accelerator searches may not return messages where only the attachments would have met the search criteria if run against affected indexes.
I think the key there is the Compliance and Discovery Accelerator customers in particular may have affected indexes.
So you can see it's very important, and if you're running Enterprise Vault 10, I'd definitely suggest that you go and check it out (especially if you're a long time Enterprise Vault customer). It seems more of a big thing, when you consider that Symantec are also in the process of writing a tool which will tell you if you have affected indexes, but it's not scheduled for release just yet.
Also fixed is the annoyance where the Outlook Add-in ribbon wouldn't appear unless you had logging set to level 2 or 3 in certain situations.
Of course I would highly recommend testing things out in a lab first of all, though things like cumulative hotfixes are far less likely to cause problems than any kind of service pack or upgrade, but it's better to be safe.
