Enterprise Vault 10.0.3 reaches General Availability
Today Enterprise Vault reaches an important milestone, and it is with great pleasure that I can announce the general availability of Enterprise Vault 10.0.3. For those of you who have been waiting for this release, you can download the bits from Symantec File Connect here and install right away.
“So what’s in this release? It’s just a service pack isn’t it?” I hear you say.
Enterprise Vault 10.0.3 not only brings a whole host of updates to give support for the latest and greatest Microsoft and Domino offerings but it also includes some great new features and functionality aimed specifically at making administering Enterprise Vault easier. Let’s take a brief look at what’s included:
- Support for Microsoft Exchange Server 2013
- Support for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013
- Support for Microsoft Outlook 2013 (on the desktop)
- Support for Windows 8 (desktop edition)
- Support for Windows 2012 as a File System Archiving target
- Gateway support for 64-bit Domino.
- Mac client OS 10.8 (Mountain Lion) support
And as if that wasn’t enough:
- New native Microsoft SCOM (System Center Operations Manager) monitoring pack
- Enterprise Vault event log filtering
- Microsoft SQL server permissions - improved granularity
- File System Archiving permissions optimisations
Want to find out more? Download the bits and check out the documentation for more details on the above.
Happy installing…

Hello Glen,
Can you please advise what features are added when using E-Discovery ?
Meta Data are indexed in native with EV or we need the E-discovery, on this document Archive Accelerator for NFS (Installation, Configuration, and Administration V1.0)
To have File Metadata archived we need the E-discovery feature.
Can you point me on a document that explain exactely what E-Discovery add to EV10
Many thanks for your feedback,
I'll follow up offline & contact you directly to discuss further.

Lots of useful information here about the new EV OWA 2013 Mail Apps. We have made significant changes to our OWA support in Exchange 2013, making use of the new Office Mail Apps to expose Enterprise Vault functionality through OWA.

Wow that's very useful links Stephen ! and thank you Alex for letting us know that it is downloadable.

Please be nice to me as I'm newbie in this forum.
alex how does it protect shared mailboxes (exchange and sharepoint) together...
i saw in one of newsletter.. 2013 had new feature of combining it together for team work etc.
Does EV supports it????
Enterprise Vault does offer support for shared mailboxes (which it always has) but does not support the new Exchange 2013 Site Mailboxes which is what you are referring to I think.
A Site Mailbox is more than just a shared mailbox, as you have pointed out, and can contain elements of both Exchange and SharePoint 2013. We are currently evaluating whether we need to offer suport for archiving from these new entities. Are you already running Exchange 2013 in production and using site mailboxes?
Is it just me or has all the 10.0.3 info been pulled from the site?
Searches either pull up broken links or pages simply dont list 10.0.3 info any longer?
example: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH163468
None work for me either!
Many Thanks,
Rob

The change didn't just apply to EV. The change has been rolled back. If you are still experiencing problems, respond on this thread and I will get someone to look.

Hi,
I am planning to deploy EV10.0.3 , any suggestion for site resilience/DR.
Thanks & Regards,
Vishal Saxena
vishal, the best place to post your question would be in the EV forum itself. not inside someone elses blog entry. at a high level, i would suggest you look at Storage Foundation (Veritas Cluster Server).

Do any of you have information on when support for 10.0.3 and Backup Exec 2012 will be available? This post is misleading as the compatibility chart in the initial post shows Backup Exec 2012 supporting version 10.0.3. I'm stuck right now where my backups aren't working based on bad information; please correct.
Someone also experienced a similar issue.
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/backup-exec-2012-does-not-support-enterprise-vault-1003-agent-backup
Seems like someone figured this out post roll out; backtracked and never provided a fix.
Not really a great sitiuation when doing a POC to execs.
It is supported... there are other forum posts too which say that it does work.
Many Thanks,
Rob

Not according to Enterprise Vault support; they presented the "updated" compatibility chart above. For the record it was working with 10.0.3 hotfix 1; it was not until we applied 10.0.3 hotfix 2 (to correct a missing Outlook plugin issue) that we experienced the job failures.
Sorry what charts above?
Many Thanks,
Rob

Here is the link;
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH38537
From the document;
"c. Enterprise Vault 10.0.0, 10.0.1, and 10.0.2 only. Support for Enterprise Vault 10.0.3 is pending."
Ah okay, I do see what you mean.
So my suggestions would be:
a/ Start a new forum post asking for clarification ...
b/ Re-raise with Symantec EV Support saying when will this be supported? And what actually 'happened' between 10.0.2 and 10.0.3 (because from looking at the release notes I can't see anything which might affect this sort of area of the product -- but from my own history 'not everything' gets listed in the release notes).
Clarity is needed, and you are right ... in many ways it's a little bit shameful that this hasn't been leapt on by Symantec, rectified, clarified and (if necessary) fixed.
Many Thanks,
Rob

Rob,
Thanks for your input. We were able to get in touch with support and although not officially supported they were able to isolate the issue by deselecting the SQL components of the job and only targeting the Vault Stores and Indexes. Once that job ran sucessfully we then added the SQL components back and have not received the initial error we originally had. To be fair and more specific it was the tier 1 Enterprise Vault technician that pointed out the incompatibility issue and threw it over to the Backup Exec group claiming it was unsupported. Once I got level 2 Backup Exec support on the line they were able to shoot the problem relatively quickly. I hope this feedback will help if anyone else runs into the same issue.
Thanks.
Thanks SMack76 - appreciate you adding the clarity and I can only appologise for the confusion around what is/isn't supported but we're working closely with the BE team to resolve this and make sure both the EV & BE compatibility guides are kept in synch.
And so Glenn.. Is the official stance that it is or isn't supported?
Many Thanks,
Rob
