** Update

Enterprise Vault 10.0.3 is available from today. See announcement here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/enterprise-vault-1003-reaches-general-availability

----------------------------------------------------------

Microsoft have announced RTM for both Exchange Server 2013 and Office 2013.

With volume licensing customers able to download and install these products by mid-November the next step for any Enterprise Vault customer is to determine when Enterprise Vault will support these releases. So to that point:

  • Exchange Server 2013 and Office 2013 will both be supported with a 10.0.3 release early next year (planned January 2013).

As with all new major version releases like this we want to ensure that the software is fully tested against the final RTM builds. These tests can always throw a last minute spanner in the works however all things being the same the above will hold true.

We'll be releasing more information nearer to the 10.0.3 ship dates however you should expect all the same levels of support for these products as with previous Microsoft releases.

If you are adopting Exchange Server 2013 or Office 2013 over the next few months I would love to hear your deployments plans - alex_brown@symantec.com

Given that the format of the Exchage 2013 journal message is identical to that for Exchage 2007/2010, will you be supporting a scenario whereby Exchange 2013 mail is journaled to an Exchange 2007/2010 journal mailbox with prior versions of EV?

At the moment we don't plan to support site mailboxes in the 10.0.3 release later this year. This is something we are considering for a future release however.

Is there any information about Backup Exec support for Exchange 2013? Or is this totally wrong place to ask? :)

Anyway, we are a Microsoft partner so we are going to deploy Exchange 2013 in internal production use as soon as possible. But, we need Backup Exec support first for production use, until that we are only limited to lab use of the product..

In my opinion you should create a new topic in the Backup Exec forum.  Link below:

Will EV support Microsoft Surface RT which has MS Office 2013 pre-installed, currently EV does not support any hand-held devices.

Surface RT doesn't support Outlook ... so I don't think there is much point in making an EV Add-in ....

The Office 2013 that comes on a Surface RT has several missing pieces, Outlook being the biggest one.

Thanks for this. I'm intrigued as 10.0.2 can't be installed against Office 2013 as far as I know.

Did you upgrade your office version in-place? Was the EV client already installed during this process?

Yep you can install ... even on top of a fresh install.

I have Office 2013, fresh, with EV 10.0.2 on top.  Have toolbar in Outlook, can retrieve archived items...

I have a fresh install of Win8 64Bits / Office 2013. I installed the EV client and it does not show anything in Outlook, so I can't retrieve archived items. I see the icons but that's all.
Your installation was on Office 2013 / Win 8?. Could you provide us more details?.
Thanks in advance,
Luis

Luis.....

Just want to say this... Following term are very different to each other.....Possibility and supported method

with Rob it was possible however from Symantec it yet to hear on Official support matrix hence it may work or may be not. Same case is with you, it works but to be unfortunate in partial mode ;-)

It happened with me too. on Windows 7 with O2013 i was able to use EV 9.0.2 addin on top of that with out any issues.....

Would suggest better to wait till we get official hearing on support matrix with 10.0.3 or EV 11 (whichever is coming soon ) ;-)

 Cheers !!!

The following combination functions… mostly.

This was an inplace upgrade from Office 2010 running EV 10.0.1.

I uninstalled both of those before installing the newer versions of each.

The add-in is visable in the ribbon and the archive can be accessed through the ribbon.

VERSION INFORMATION
Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit
Outlook Microsoft Outlook 15, 32-bit (15.0.0.4420)
Internet Explorer 8.0.7601.17514
Enterprise Vault Add-in 10.0.2.1112 (Light functionality enabled)
VBScript component (Outlvbs.dll) Available

The down fall is when you try to access the archive through the data file shortcut located in the left-hand pane of the Mail – Home tab.
It pops with:

The set of folders cannot be opened. An unexpected error has occurred.
MAPI was unable to load the information service EVMSP.DLL. Be sure the service is correctly installed and configured.

I haven’t had time to play with the functionality of my rules that push older emails from my in box into the vault yet. I wanted to see if I could find a work around for the error first. Any idea?

Thanks,

-Will-

As per enviroment, Our EV 9.0.4 is archiving the Exchnage 2010.

if we deployed EV client 10.0.3 in the place of EV client 9.0.4.

Will EV client 10.0.3 support outlook 2013 with Windows 8 OS and work with EV Sever 9.0.4. ?

What is work around and solution so that out EV Server 9.0.4 start to support outlook 2013 ?

I have raised the query in support forum and symantec techincal support but not get reply.

Yes a 10.0.3 client and a 9.0.4 server combination will work just fine.

The 10.0.3 client supports both Windows 8 and Outlook 2013.

So you will be fine.

Hi Alex,

We're using EV 9.0.1 and are going to deploy outlook 2013. Will the combination EV server 9.0.1 vs EV client 10.0.3 work on outlook 2013?

Thanks in advance.

Yes that combination will work fine providing you have the following hotfix installed on your EV 9.0.1 servers: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH175939

Hi Alex,

We are using EV Server 10.0.0 and in other site EV Server 10.0.1 ; clients are using Outlook Add-In from 10.0.1 version in both site, PCs with Windows 7 and Office 2010, this is working fine.

Now i need upgrade clients to Outlook 2013.

Can I use Outlook Add-In from EV 10.0.3 without problems? o must be upgrade EV Server to 10.0.3 version.

Morever , if this add-in 10.0.3 work without problems ; i need uninstall previous Add-in or only to do a ugprade in place.

Thanks in advance.

The EV 10.0.3 Outlook Add-in will work with any 9.x or 10.x EV server backend - therefore you will be fine.

An in-place upgrade should be fine.

Do the extensions for OWA 2010 get installed on the Exchange 2013 CAS servers ?

+1
Alex Brown's picture

No - The OWA 2010 extensions must be installed on the Exchange 2010 CAS role server. In your scenario even though you may be using Exchange 2013 front end servers, if you have mailboxes hosted on Exchange 2010 then you will still need at least one Exchange 2010 CAS in place. This is where the OWA 2010 extensions should be installed and not on the Exchange 2013 front end.

hello

We've installed 10.0.3.1090, however users on Windows 8 with Outlook 2013 are not able to view the archives messages.. we get an error:

the custom forms cannot be opened. Outlook will use an Outlook form instead, blabla contact your administrator..

we've been trying the Registry Key (allow any user) fix, but that did not work.. any other hints/tips??

Hi, Just hoping to get some clarity on a few things.

We're currently running EV v10 on server 2008 against an exchange 2003 box. We're aiming to replace this with an Exchange 2013, will we be able to add this in as a new server to EV and still retain access to the old archive? As we'll obviously have the same users im concious of the system creating an additional store/archive for each user.

Thanks

Yes this will be fine. Ensure you are using EV 10.0.3 or later (check the compatibiltiy guide) to ensure compatiblity with Exchange 2013.

If the users are simply having their mailboxes moved from the Exchange 2003 environment to Exchange 2013 then they should retain the same archive i.e. there will be no additional archives.

We're using EV 9.0.0 and are plan to to deploy outlook 2013. Will the combination EV server 9.0.0 and EV client 10.0.3 work with outlook 2013?

Yes that combination will work fine however you may need to patch your EV 9.0.0 servers with the following: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH175938

Hi Alex,

Regarding Simon Butlers question above about Exchange 2013 envelope journaing thru Exchange 2007 and earlier versions of EV, can you provide links to any documentation for this?

I am running EV 9.0.3 on a 32 bit Windows 2003 R2 server, so I cannot upgrade to EV 10 directly. I have a single Exchange 2007 server that I will be migrating to a new Windows 2012 server and Exchange 2013.

I dont have another server to install EV 10 on, so I need to keep running EV 9. After migrating to Exchange 2013, I planned to repurpose the Exchange 2007 server to install EV 10 on, and migrate EV 9 to that.

Does this sound feasible?

Thank you!

Michael,

So how about the VaultStore of the existing EV 9 ? are they going to be re-attached to EV 10 as well or will not be ?

Because if you need to provision new server and storage for EV 10 upgrade, you will need 1:1 disk space as with the existing LUN on EV 9.

The only problem with this scenario is that EV 9.x does not support Exchange 2013.

So as you migrate mailboxes from Exchange 2007 -> 2013 EV will lose the ability to archive and manage those mailboxes. If the mailbox migration period is quick then you can of course deal with this by aggressively archiving the mailboxes before migration (make them smaller so they migrate faster), allocating larger mailbox quota's for the duration so that users do not run out of quota space and then have EV archive the backlog once you have managed to migrate EV to a 64-bit Windows box, upgraded to EV 10.x (I'd recommend upgrading to the latest EV 10 service pack - 10.0.4) and then re-connect archiving tasks to Exchange 2013.

Just to point out, that during the period of migration when the Exchange 2013 are not being archived by EV your end-users will continue to have full access to their shortcuts, virtual vault, search. This is because these items are not dependant on EV being connected to their mailbox. They will not, though, be able to manually archive or restore items as these actions are dependant.

So, yes it sounds feasible given the information above.

Cool, thanks Alex !

So the users will still be able to retrieve the archived item from Exchange 2013 when the EV still on EV 9 ?

Yes. The fact that the users mailbox is hosted on Exchange 2013 mailbox really shouldn't make a difference.... end users can retrieve their archived items because they are performing the action from an Outlook client which is supported on EV 9.x. The bit that won't be supported in this configuration is any connection between EV server and Exchange; archiving, item movement, synchronisation etc... Item retrieval from an Outlook client does not require this connection as it a direct connection between Outlook client and EV server via IIS.

If your end users are using Outlook 2010 then they should be using a suitable 9.x client.

If they are using Outlook 2013 then they will need to have a 10.x client installed.

Check the EV compatibilitiy guide for specifics on all of the above.

Many thanks Alex,

That does make sense and really convince me in upgrading to EV 10.0.4 :-)

I wish that EV 11 comes out sooner so that I don't have to do another upgrade again sometimes this year.

Thanks All. I am only doing envelope journaling, no archiving at all. Can I have all email flow thru the EX 07 server (as a "front-end" server) and then have the messages pass thru to Ex 13?

Thanks
