EV 8.0 SP3 has landed

We’re pleased to announce that EV 8.0 SP3 was released on November 4th and can now be downloaded from FileConnect; the release documents are attached to this post.

In summary the key new functionality is:

1)      Virtual Vault – manage your archive as if it’s a PST. This now means your users can stay within the Outlook pane and browse their archive in a quick & familiar manner. This is a much anticipated feature which has undergone extensive testing both in house & with many beta customers. We are very excited about this new feature and believe it now offers the user a truly transparent UI experience, I can’t do justice to this feature in a quick post like this one so expect further follow up in the next week or so.

2)      SharePoint –  some significant enhancements to the user experience & archiving capability

a.       We’ve improved how we display archived documents; it’s now completely transparent to users.

b.      Archive Policy can now archive documents based on meta data (dates, content type as well as custom meta-data)

3)      Discovery Accelerator - Improved granularity for managing what vaults stores & archives a case administrator is able to see. We  also introduce a DENY right for role management.

4)      FSA Reporting – performance enhancements to make this significantly faster.

We will share more detail in the weeks ahead but your first port of call should be FileConenct to download the software and obviouisly please read the attached release documentation

Regards
Glenn

No seriously...when can we expect that Virtual Vault Best Practices Guide?  That is significant change in SP3, and the documentation is pretty vauge, deffering to this yet-to-be-released guide.

This is still in the process of being created, it is a priority and we're working hard to get this out of the door ASAP.

If you've got specific questions then probably the forum is the best place to post them so everyone can share in the discussion.

Whats' the status update? I really want to enable Virtual Vault and we are about to bake in our Windows 7 image up from XP and want the feature in that.

And why is SP3 not shown on the main support page: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/overview.jsp?pid=50996

That suggests that SP2 is the latest.

All good questions - we're hearing a lot of demand for the Best Practice guide so rest assured it's being worked on and will be available soon. For Windows7 support we expect to formally certify this with SP4 which is expected to ship next month but watch our blog for more details.  I certainly know of customers who are currently using WIndows7 with SP3 without issue.

Why isn't SP3 not shown on the support page - must be an oversight but I'll chase that.

Meanwhile all the docs are available on this link.

Sorry! I tried to create a new forum discussion, but I was getting errors when trying to save it. Therfore I need to post the below discussion.

Does anyone know or have an estimate on when the new release for Enterprise Vault will be available? (i.e. Enterprise Vault 8.0 - SP4)

We are looking into the possibility of upgrading from 8.0-SP2. However, it seems that SP3 has already been identified as requiring certain hotfixes.

We do not want to upgrade to SP3 and then find out that SP4 is available. Therefore, SP4 will already include all the hotfixes.

Please advise on any comments or questions,
Thanks and Best Regards,
Dennis

As far as I'm aware, 8.0 SP4 will be out around the end of April..
