What is FileConnect?

FileConnect is Symantec’s electronic software distribution website which allows Symantec customers to download their enterprise products or order a media kit.

Some customers are trying to download a software from Fileconnect using the ‘HTTP download’ method have received the below error message:

Authorization Required

This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required.

Work Around:

> use * Manage Download for the meantime

> Lower their security settings (to low), download the files, & then revert their settings

> Upgrade to IE7 or IE8

Oftentimes, Internet Explorer 7 and 8 failed and asked for a login ID and password.

On this scenario, it is advisable to use a different browser like Mozilla Fire Fox and/ or Google Chrome and make sure to type in the correct website and exact web address. ;) -->> (

* The Managed Download:

If you wish to begin downloading multiple files at the same time, this method allows you to select as many files as you wish, begin the download, and go on to other areas of business. The process requires that a Java Applet be installed on your machine that manages the download process, so that when one file completes it's download, the next in the queue is initiated. It also allows for the use of the "Resume Downloads" feature on the web site. We recommend the use of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.4.2 as there is a bug, documented on the Sun site, between Verisign certificates and certain other versions of the JRE. This bug will still allow the download, but a warning will appear stating that it is not a trusted source.(
