One of the hottest topics in IT right now is cloud computing. Everyone seems to be talking about how it can revolutionize the way companies do business. And yet, despite all of the discussion, it’s hard to know where businesses actually stand when it comes to adopting cloud technologies.

After recent hits to major cloud services, the cloud has been compared to airplanes. The idea is that you’re safer in a plane than a car, but when it goes down it will go down spectacularly, and the impact will be more widespread. However, you can’t approach cloud like you would buying an airline ticket—where cheapest fare takes priority.

According to Symantec's 2010 SMB Information Protection Survey, 73 percent of small businesses were victims of cyber attacks last year and the majority of these attacks resulted in financial losses. On Wednesday, February 23 at 10am PT, Symantec will host a webcast focused on how small businesses can protect their information from the latest security threats.

This week, Symantec was honored by the US Small Business Administration as one of eight recipients of the inaugural Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program Hall of Fame Award. The ceremony took place in Washington, D.C. at the White House.
