Global Exclude / Exception to Exclude list option in Netbackup
Hi All
It would be helpful for those who are frustated with updating number of clients with exclusion and exceptions to exclusion in Netbackup (7.x Onwards).
Here i would demonstrate how you can achive this by making use of Hidden Option of Global Exclude / Exception Lists.
Open Netbackup Administratration Console
Browse Hosts Properties - Clients
Select all the clients where Exclusion and Exceptions to Exclude lists needs to apply.
Right click on selection and select Properties.
Navigate to Windows Client - Exclude Lists
Now on under Exclude Lists
Click on Add
Specify the Policy(ies), Schedules and the path (File / Folder /Drive) to be excluded
Now after you added the exclusion it should be highlighted with Golden Color.
(it should not be Greyed out, If so Select those are greyed out and Add All option beside Add would highlight, Click on Add All so it will apply the exclusion globally.)
Under Exceptions to Exclude Lists
Click on Add
Specify the Policy Name associated to exclusion mentioned above. Schedule and Extensions (i.e. *.pdf, *.xls(x), *.doc(x), *.ppt(x) .etc)
Now same should be highlighted with Golden Color.
(it should not be Greyed out, If so Select those are greyed out and Add All option beside Add would highlight, Click on Add All so it will apply the exceptions to exclusion globally.)
Click Apply and OK
Refresh the EMM DB using ../admincmd/bprdreq.exe -rereadconfig

Thanks for sharing this info and taking the time to write all this, I will follow suit with something related to OpsCenter.
actually this feature should be set over policy instead of individual client..
whosoever client is added into policy will automatically get enforced to use this exclusion...and inclusion
for setting this exclusion must thing is that client must be connected to netbackup else you can't enforce it till it allows to browse it's properties
Cheers !!!

is it same as PureDisk? Clients automatically gets updated??
We have PureDisk 6.6.3a, for remote office protection
Article does not show anything for newer clients (can't understand why they don't appear till we add in policy ,,, )
they shud appear but in deactive or highlight with different color etc..... but highlight for new client discovered!!!!
unfortunately include/exclude enforment does not work same as PureDisk. Which works purely on Policy hence whichever client add it into policy gets updated include/exclude details
Where in NBU client must be online to apply policy. however there is bit more of clicks. Select previous and new client whose include/exclude list are to be applied and go to settings etc..
Hope so this would be taken care by NBU team.. lets hope
Cheers !!!
