Symantec held its annual Symantec Government Symposium on June 22 in Washington, D.C.  The Government Symposium is a one-day annual event devoted to the public sector and its partners. The event brings together government IT, security and business professionals to discuss challenges and opportunities related to sharing critical information among public sector agencies – as well as with the private sector and citizens – while protecting sensitive data and complex IT infrastructures.

More than 1,100 people attended the event, including more than 600 government attendees. Impactful keynote speeches were given by Howard Schmidt, cyber security coordinator in the executive office of the president, and Maj. Gen. Suzanne M. Vautrinot, who serves as director of plans and policy, U.S. Cyber Command, U.S. Strategic Command.  In addition, Symantec CEO Enrique Salem spoke about how government agencies can better secure and manage their data.

Video of the keynote speeches are now available as well as audio recordings of the track sessions.

In addition, seven individuals were honored with a Cyber 7 Award at the event for exemplifying excellence in government cyber security through their contributions to cyber security programs that protect our nation’s data and systems.

RE: Government Leaders Talk Cyber Security at Symantec Governmen

It is a good initiative to get the public sector and typically the government employees into thinking on the lines of CyberSecurity. With so much peril lingering around in the cyberway stronger stringent laws are required to be enacted as soon as possible.
