We interrupt our regularly scheduled broadcast to wish a great Happy System <Storage, Server, DBA> Admin Day from the Symantec Connect community team!!!! Because that's all we ever talk about here on Connect, we've decided this is pretty much the coolest holiday ever (with the exception of maybe Talk Like A Pirate Day...). Or as the sysadmin day site describes it "the single greatest 24 hours on the planet"… they might be biased too.

In prior years you've shared your stories about the greatest challenges, heroic efforts... We've really appreciated the stories, and instead of sympathy or condolences, your peers (and us) thought they were pretty entertaining. You laugh too, when it's not happening to you, right? So  tell us about your biggest meltdown, how you saved the day on a project, or send us a photo of your wildest wiring job in the comments section below. We'll give the first 3 of you a passel of extra reward points.

So post your stories in the comments below and remember to tell your boss that today is INTERNATIONAL SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR APPRECIATION DAY and maybe you'll even get a free lunch from the boss, too. Better still, here's a list of gift suggestions from the official SysAdminDay site, which you could conveniently forward to them.

While we're sharing the Admin-love today, we'd like to make a big shout-out to the folk behind the scenes (there is a nameless hoard you never see) here at our Symantec Connect site, who keep this beast well-fed and tended. They make us look good on a daily basis but we couldn't keep Connect running without them!

Happy Sys/Storage/Server/DB Admin Day,
From all of the Symantec Connect Community Managers

<< how you saved the day on a project >>

I found Symantec Patch Management which lets me happily patch windows and 3rd party apps (without WSUS!)

I think the majority of us will agree, it's not just one time that we've saved the day on our company's behalf.   I recently was given 2 months to migrate from ServiceDesk 7.1 SP1 to 7.5 MP1.   This involved making it external and implementing custom workflow processes for a password reset tool and our facilties team.   Overall it went very well without any major hiccups.  That's my latest save the day, scenario since our company needed a solution that was mostly external for our offices that are not on our internal network and to consolidate on one ticketing system.

I'd say that my network is now  safer and got no problem with virus outbreak in the past 7 years since I implement Symantec Client Security v 9 up to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.3

and also the Backup Exec System Recovery 8.5 and now renamed into Symantec System Recovery 2013 is truly the greatest product that I ever work on with.

Thanks Symantec !

Kind regards,

Applause to all of you!!! Thanks for sharing your stories (and the nice comments). Here are a few standout stories from prior years, as well, that are just so good they need to be pulled from the past:
