To change the image store location, do the following:

  1. Create an image folder on the drive you want to store images on. (i.e. D:\image)
  2. Move the content of "C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Agents\Deployment\Task Handler\image" to the image folder you just created.
  3. Download and extract linkd.exe from this blog (or download and install Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?DisplayLang=en&FamilyID=9d467a69-57ff-4ae7-96ee-b18c4790cffd )
  4. Run linkd.exe to create an NTFS Junction Point redirecting the original image folder to the new one you created:
    C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools>linkd.exe "C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Agents\Deployment\Task Handler\image" "D:\image"

Hi Marcello, Any tricks up

Hi Marcello,

Any tricks up your sleave for storing images on other servers? We've avoided storing software packages and images on the NS/DS servers to keep them physicaly light-weight. This,

  1. Reduces time to bring back up the core services in a DR scenario
  2. Allows more flexibility in VMWare for storage migration
  3. Allows us to provide fast storage for the core NS/DS pieces, and 'slightly less fast' for the fileserver pieces.
  4. Allow us even to leverage of existing fileservers in our environment

Kind Regards,
Ian./

Image storage and image replication

This kb gives a good overview about what is currently supported with DS 7.1 in terms of image storage and image replication

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO21731

this one explains how to import images from 6.9 to 7.x, or move images in 7.x

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO10520

If you wish to submit a Feature Request in that regards, I would recommend you to go to http://connect.symantec.com

Click the Login link if you have a SymAccount or Register to create a SymAccount if you don't already have one. Please note that you can use the same credentials you use to login to the MySupport site.

Select the Create Content and then Idea.

Once you have entered the details of your request select Endpoint Management as the Community and Altiris Deployment Solution as the product. Please be sure to select the appropriate Community and product so that the proper Product Management team reviews your idea.

Cheers.
