Today we will discuss in this blog how can we copy backup images from one media to different. Suppose we have had backup image of some data on a SAN drive and we want it to have at different SAN drive DSU/volume pool.

In this blog we imagine that we have backup image on DSU1 and we will make a copy of this backup image in to DSU2.
First confirm from the catalog that you have had backup image which you want to have on another DSU(DSU2) as well.

Suppose that the backup image is present as the below example snap is showing

Now select the duplicate from the Action menu and click on search as the below snap showing

Now right click on the backup image and click on duplicate

After click on duplicat you will find the below window

Now select the Storage unit/Volume pool as below snap showing and click OK

See the activity monitor to view the duplication process

The next and last snap wil show that the duplication process has been completed successfully

What if the volume you want to duplicate,is part of a set?  The NBU server I administer, writes to a VTL, which creates virtual tapes that are subsequently exported to physical tapes that have the same barcode.  My problem is that one of the physical tapes in the set has been lost (thankyouverymuch, field services) and the virtual tape is 'stuck' in the VTL because it can't be exported.  (All the rest of the tapeset has been successfully exported.)  When I ran the Duplicate command (from the GUI), the job drops into Queued status and it appears to be waiting for the entire original tapeset to be loaded.  Does this mean that to duplicate ONE tape, It's necessary to duplicate the entire set?  Is there a way to duplicate just ONE tape?

If not, what about using "vmchange", to amend the virtual barcode, to match an available (scratch) tape?  How would I update the Catalog, to reflect that this new tape (barcode) is now part of the original tapeset?

Regards,  Paul

Hi, I have attempted to duplicate some images (we have SLP working fine but would like an additional adhoc copy) using the method above and nothing happens.  the job does not appear in Activity monitor, there is a log created in which we can see in the status tab under the Catalog option.

Any ideas why this duplicaiotn does not occur.

Thanks

Andy
