Improving the Cursor Speed When Using VMware Over Terminal Services

This is something that has bugged me for a long time. When you use RDP (Terminal Services) to connect to your VMWare host console, seemingly at random, the cursor will move significantly slower on particular VMWare guest systems. For me, the problem usually occurred on Windows XP and Windows 2008 guest systems.

The culprit is the pointer shadow. Disable this through Control Panel > Mouse > Pointers > Uncheck “Enable pointer shadow”.

Bug also in Windows 2000

I found your tip very helpful, for many time I had this cursor bad performance in some guest systems in the VMware environment.

Just an addition, I found this issue as you described in Windows XP and also in the Windows 2000 operative system.
Instead Windows 2003 is not affected with this bug.

Thanks for your helpful information. regards.
