Intel Turbo Memory in Lenovo T500

Heads up! We have recently purchased Lenovo T500 notebook systems that contain the Intel Turbo Memory (http://www.intel.com/design/flash/nand/turbomemory...). The first thing I did was try and PXE boot and WHAM!!! "PCI System error...". After a little searching I found this is a known problem with Altiris PXE (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/documen...).

The only option right now seems to be to remove the cards. Besides the labor involved this is not a bad option for us. From what I have read you need Vista to take advantage of this card and we are sticking XP Pro for now.

We have talked with a tech from Lenovo that said this should be fixed in DS 6.9 SP2. I'm still waiting on verification from Symantec on this.

Hope this helps anyone that is thinking of purchasing these cards or currently pulling their hair our wondering what is happening.

Found something out

This is just when you do an F8 for the PXE menu. After the errors you get a line across a blank area of the screen. You can arrow through these and they are your PXE options. The just need to know the position on the option you want.

Then when I choose an option I get too many memory segments and it drops out of PXE.

The funny thing is we tore the notebook open and the slot for the Intel Turbo Memory was empty. Still trying to see if they now build it on the main board.

I'll post more as I figure it out.

BTW... The graphic the Juice editor chose for this article is great. I kinda look like that right now.

That did it

That article did it.

So...
Even though I get the PCI error the PXE menu is still there.
I had the follow article https://kb.altiris.com/display/1/index.asp?c=&cpc=... to fix the "Too many memory segments" issue.

Hope this helps others.

Emulation Mode

Apparently this should be fixed in 6.9 SP2. This is a ways off though. No big deal, at least I've got workarounds. There is something I can try if I am so inclined. I can put PXE into emulation mode: https://kb.altiris.com/display/1/index.asp?c=&cpc=... But what I heard back from Lenovo was, the MAC would now have to be my primary look-up key. We want to stick with SN.
