I don't know if this is the cause of 7.5 SP1 HF4 or not, but while we aren't using Monitor Solution I discovered that the plugin was installed on our servers. I used the uninstall policy to remove it and several of our servers had non-Symantec Management Agent services restarted with the 'server' service in a 'stopped' status that sent alerts to our Server Engineering team. Official response from Symantec was:

"The problem seems to be that non-Agent services stop and try to restart when the Monitor Plug-in gets uninstalled for the first time from a Site Server with Agent 7.5 SP1 HF4. In my tests the Server service will still restart after this but I don't think the Agent should cause this service to stop in the first place. I am escalating this case to my back-line team as a defect that needs to be fixed."

So be careful if you have to uninstall the Monitor Plugin from your servers.

Nicolas,

I've asked the support team to validate this scenario so we can help with recommendations.  We'll keep you informed of our findings and recommendations.

Hello Eric,

Thanks for your feedback, but do you know if we can expect soon a patch in Altiris ?

Machines where I've manually installed SWV HF2 try to re-installed Altiris SWV buggy old version.

The installed package is not compliant with included Altiris policy.

Nicolas, make sure you get the SWV agent updated to the .770 build.  HF2 for the Workspace Virtualization product addressed a couple of issues causing system crashes.  See the release notes for Symantec Workspace Virtualization 7.5 SP1 HF2 at http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO101699 .

Hello,

Any issue with a BSOD during boot after upgrading SWV agent ?

We've got some machines looping on a blue screen. Solution was to safe boot, rename fslx.sys file and reboot.

I've raw installed the updated package from SWV repository but now Altiris complains about the version (higher than Altiris one).

I have been thinking about removing the inventory plugin before i install the upgrade, to save the upgrade step.

I was getting ready to go from HF1 to HF3 in our DEV enviornment.  Based on some of the security fixes, I'll probably do HF4 instead.  Has anyone installed it yet?  Any tips or stories to share?  I'll be sure to share my results.

Hugo,  one of the known issues sounds painful:

After an Inventory Agent Plug-in upgrade policy runs on a client computer, the Server Inventory .dll files are removed. Note: To run Server Inventory task successfully, you need to uninstall Server Inventory Agent, and re-install it again via policy.

What is the recommended approach for this?  I'm assuming 1) Remove server inventory agent, 2) upgrade Inventory Agent, 3) Install Server Inventory Agent.  I also assume this means we should not use the Server Inventory Agent upgrade policy at all?
