USB Swiss Army Knife: KillProcess, the perfect portable killer for your system processes

Apr 08, 2009 08:52 AM

Another tool to add in your USB memory key to use in case of emergency. The KillProcess tool is a perfect killer for your applications.

A short description from the author :
It can terminate almost any process on a Windows machine, including any service and process running in the system. Even protected Microsoft system processes can be terminated.

This tool can be helpful to terminate certain unknown processes that can be impossible shut down in other normal ways.

Also it has a great feature , the ability to create “kill lists” where you create a list of processes you want to kill.
As other tools already posted here the KillProcess is released with freeware licence and is available in a portable version.

For further details refers to the Orange Lamp Software Solution website and visit the KillProcess e-Learning Videos section

As already posted , my goal is create a complete software collection to use on USB memory key is the portability and possible the freeware license.

Find other portable tools in my previous posts on Juice :

Portable Freeware Photoeditor
Troubleshooting for USB Devices on Your System
Free Portable Inventory Software
Graphical Interface for Nirsoft and Sysinternals Tools

In this way, you will have your USB Swiss Army Knife!

I agree Erik, this tool is really a killer and the use has toi be careful evaluated. For my experience ,  I used KillProcess in the past when I found a process where I was really sure that was something "strange" , not a system process but something else.

be carefull with the use of Killprocess if you do not know what the process does you are killing.
I alway's use Kill.exe from sysinternals because it recognizes necessary processes and does not kll them.
But killprocess is also in my toolbox.
Great tool but again be carefull if you do not know exactly what the process does.

I always use PV.EXE to identify a process is running or not.

Check the following ink to my posting:
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/downloads/installation-wrapper-scripts-wise-visual-basic-scripts

There is a vbscript & a wise script to check for the process and kill the process if it is running. These scripts will come in handy when you are installing/uninstalling a particular application.
