There has been a lot of confusion over the last hours after an application named “МТС Мобильная Почта” was automatically added to the My Apps section of some Samsung devices as an apparent application upgrade. However, these devices have never installed this application.

We have been taking a close look at Android threats since they first appeared, looking for ways to analyze and classify them, as well as looking at possible attack vectors they may use in the near future. Some of our research has uncovered how Android applications could potentially exploit other installed applications to steal their private information or execute malicious code.

Following our initial post on the discovery of Android.Bgserv, Symantec has found additional Trojanized samples in the wild.

On March 6,2011, Google published the application “Android Market Security Tool”, a tool designed to undo the side effects caused by Android.Rootcager.

As seen in recent blog postings, Android malware is on the rise. Android.Pjapps is another example of a Trojan with back door capabilities that targets Android devices.
