New Beta for Backup Exec
Created: 05 Jan 2011 | Updated: 08 Apr 2011 | 17 comments
(April 8th EDIT: The Beta cycle is now ending. Please see my First Availability blog here on how to get the gold code early)
A Beta program has started for Backup Exec but is ending soon and will then be moving into the RC (Release Candidate), phase. Only users already signed up for the Beta and active (i.e. providing feedback) will be invited to the RC phase where we support users installing it in production setups. Some of the new features include:
- Deduplication performance improvement
- Deduplication optimization for VMware specific backups
- Exchange Virtual Vault for the Archive Option (makes recovering vaulted items much easier for end users)

Great...hope i get on this Beta...is this open to anybody?
Thanks James!
If you find this is a solution, please mark it as such.
There are a few exceptions based on country of origin and generally we recommend you have some prior 'backup admin' experience (though not necessarily with Backup Exec), but we only really screen to make sure you aren't a terrorist or export law violator. :)

Great James, thanks...last time I checked my CV, I hadn't listed those 2 as previous work experience =)
I DO live in South Africa though...does that make any difference?

Dear James,
May I know if there is location for new features and requirement? We are interested upgrading to the newer version in the future. AS we are refreshing all backup devices and media server. We need to ensure the new equipment are certified and fulifill the requirement of the upcoming version.
thanks
@CraigV South Africa does not have any specific export restrictions for the USA
@Yan I'm afraid I can't go into more detail than what I provided above for now. But you are welcome to email me using the link in the Blog post to sign up for the program.

Sign me up - I have had MUCh quality time with both BE and Netbackup. And I still have hair ;-)

Signed up too.
Hope to get into the Beta Program, as I really would like to find some bugs in a secure testing environment rather than on site at the customer again. ;)

I signed up as well...
Being a real backup admin customer, using dedup full features, and struggling with it, I just hope the integration with pure disk can be really improved and effective, otherwise it will make this feature totally useless.
Only alternative would be to get back on NetApp and friends appliances.
Cheers,
Bob
I don't really want to join a beta program - I just want to know when the release is scheduled for?
Dedupe performance in my case is very lack lustre across the SAN on a dedicated high spec media server (dual 12-core cpu, 32gb ram) - Combined max dedupe across 4 concurrent jobs is 2GB/min
Hello,
I work as pre Sales in france and I would like to have this beta version.
thanks in advance.
Thaaaaaaaanx
hope i can test it to know about new features.

Cheers

Hi James
I'm particularly interested in joining the Beta Testing, but I would appreciate obtaining confirmation on whether SBS 2011 is supported or not and when the Release is scheduled for.
