UPDATE (July 25, 2013)

We have reached General Availability for the Backup Exec Service Packs for BE2010 and BE2012. More details can be found here.

Thank you for your participation and ongoing support!

UPDATE (July 11, 2013)

We are very close to the availability of the BE 2010 R3 SP3 and BE 2012 SP2 releases!  As such, the current beta program will be closing soon and new registrations will no longer be accepted.  If you have yet to register for the current beta program, please do so as soon as possible at: http://buex.ec/2012Beta  Additionally, there are a few items we want to make you aware of when the beta program closes:

  • The Symbeta feedback systems will be stopped.  Existing beta participants will still be able to view any feedback (incidents, journal entires, etc.) they already submitted but not submit new entries.
  • Symbeta participants will be notified when the final release is available.
  • The availability date for the official BE 2010 R3 SP3 and BE 2012 SP2 releases will be the same.  We will provide an update when this date is determined.

Thank you!

UPDATE (May 29, 2013):

The time is here! We are thrilled to announce the availability of Beta software for Backup Exec 2010 R3 SP3 and Backup Exec 2012 SP2! This beta software includes support for protection of several new platforms including Windows Server 2012, Hyper-V 2012 and VMware vSphere 5.1.

If you have already registered and are approved to participate, you will receive an email notice from SymBeta informing you that downloads are now available.  Please use your SymBeta account to access these Beta downloads, and email BEBeta@symantec.com for any technical difficulties with SymBeta access.

If you'd like to participate in the beta but have not yet registered, you can do so at http://buex.ec/2012Beta. Approvals follow new registrations within approximately one to two weeks, sometimes less, due to required screening for Trade Compliance.

UPDATE (May 20, 2013):

Early last week, we allowed a few customers in our high-touch program, to install a Backup Exec 2010 R3 SP3 Beta build.  This week we expect to do the same with Backup Exec 2012 SP2 Beta.  Following successful installations with this limited initial number of testers, we will release to the broader group of beta participants who received approval in SymBeta.  All approved participants will receive an email when downloads are available.

The program remains open for new signups and registrants typically receive approval within two weeks.  If you have any questions about the Backup Exec Beta programs, please email us directly at BEBeta@symantec.com.

UPDATE (May 7, 2012):

The Backup Exec team will soon be announcing the next Beta program.  We are seeking Backup Exec 2010 and Backup Exec 2012 customers who are interested in testing, validating and actively providing feedback on Backup Exec code within their production environments.  Details as to the timeframe and scope of the Beta program are still being finalized but we anticipate beginning early 2nd quarter of 2013 with a focus on platform support (Windows OS and applications, virtualization).  Additional details will be communicated in the near future.

If you are an existing Backup Exec 2010 or Backup Exec 2012 customer who is interested in participating, follow the link below to apply:
https://symbeta.symantec.com/callout/?callid=52801...

Please be aware that there is a qualification process to determine if you are eligible to participate.  We will be asking candidates to complete a pre-beta survey providing information about their environment.  Completion of this survey does not guarantee acceptance into the Beta program.  If you are not accepted, you still may be able to participate in a subsequent Beta program.

Thank you!

The Backup Exec Beta team would like to provide answers to a few common questions we are getting from those interested in participating in this Beta program.

Q: How will this Backup Exec Beta release be delivered?
A: This Beta software for Backup Exec will be delivered via SymBeta as a service pack (SP) to an already released version.  SP3 will be released for Backup Exec 2010 R3 and SP2 will be released for Backup Exec 2012.  Each service pack should be added to the respective full release which must be installed prior.  If you do not have a license, but wish to try the new service packs, you may obtain a trial version of Backup Exec 2010 from https://www4.symantec.com/Vrt/offer?a_id=91912 and Backup Exec 2012 fromhttps://www4.symantec.com/Vrt/offer?a_id=142338 .

Q: What is addressed in this release of Backup Exec?
A: In addition to the platform support mentioned in the previous post, this release will address several issues previously identified in both Backup Exec 2010 and Backup Exec 2012.  A list of the issues addressed in this release will be published to SymBeta in the near future and include links to the corresponding Tech Notes that contain additional details and information.

Q: Can I install this release of Backup Exec on a Windows 2012 server?
A: This release of Backup Exec will provide support for remote protection of Windows 2012 servers only.  It will not support the ability to install Backup Exec directly on a Windows 2012 server.  Support for this is being planned for a future release.

Q: Will the Beta Service Pack for Backup Exec 2012 include Job Monitor and multi-server jobs?
A: No, Job Monitor and multi-server jobs are not included.  We are working on this for a future full release of Backup Exec.

Q: I am interested in participating and have registered for the program.  When will my registration be approved?
A: Approval notifications will be provided approximately one to two weeks prior to the release of the beta software download.

Thank you!

Backup Exec Beta Program Update:

First, we want to thank you for your ongoing patience as we know that you have been eagerly awaiting the new platform support in Backup Exec 2010 and Backup Exec 2012 for some time.  The product team is on track to provide a May, 2013 beta release so we are getting very close!  As these dates are finalized and the beta is made available, we will provide communication updates via this blog and SymBeta notifications.  Additionally, look for information on Backup Exec, the upcoming Beta Program and other related content posted to Connect, SpiceWorks, Twitter, Reddit and Google+.

Secondly, we are about to release the beta software. We’d like to clarify a few key points:

  • This release will be delivered as a service pack.  SP3 will be released for Backup Exec 2010 R3 and SP2 will be released for Backup Exec 2012.  The beta service packs will be made available via SymBeta.
  • Since the Backup Exec 3600 appliance is a closed configuration and supports only service packs delivered via LiveUpdate, we will not be able to support the deployment of the Beta service pack to Backup Exec 3600 Appliance customers. The final released service pack for Backup Exec 2012 will be available (via LiveUpdate) for Backup Exec 3600 Appliance customers.
  • This upcoming service pack release for Backup Exec 2010 and Backup Exec 2012 will support VMware vSphere 5.1.  VMware vSphere 5.1 Update 1 has recently been made available but support for this update is not within the scope of this release.  The Backup Exec product teams are planning for this support in a subsequent release.
  • Both Backup Exec 2010 R3 SP3 and Backup Exec 2012 SP2 will support Exchange 2010 SP3.

Thank you!
