New Rewards Points System Good or Bad ?

Bijay.Swain's picture

From my experience the new points system has disappointed people because earlier when i post a Tech Question on forum I used to get lots of reply and some of them are really usefull but now things have changed I have to wait for a day or more to get a single answer .as people are now not interested in 1 point.
which is also affecting the forum in some way. now people try to post there querry and keep themself to their problem only they are now not interested to solve others problem .

Its not that

Bijay,
One thing you have to keep in mind that this is just a community and not a support forum.

People are voluntarily contributing to this community and It is not that people are posting comments only for points. There are Trusted advisors like EdT and Kyle, who will reply immediately to the issues posted.

I personally feel that new reward point system has nothing to do with what you are saying here. Infact i like the new reward point system as there is an option to reward an comment/answer/solution if it is worthy.

Thanks,
Eshwar

I agree with eshwar

I fully agree with Eshwar.

It is not about the rewards. it is about the answers.
There are lots of websites where you can post questions and get answers, and none of them reward you for that.
The new points system rocks.
I like it.
Now I get points for the content of an article and not for just placing them to get points.
If an article is good, users should reward it.
If it is bad they don't.

But i think there should be

But i think there should be some more points distribution

not all members have so much experience Or skill to solve the problem of other but they are very good in suggesting some alternates for solving problems so they should also get some point as reward

i think the current reward system is good but they should add some more condition for rewarding the efforts of rapiers.

It's their perogative and let it be.

Getting point os a blessing in disgoise. Are we hare to get points and in turn some small gift or are we here to get some valuable knowledge.

I strongly belive, using symantec connect, one can definately achieve much more technical knowhow or sometimes even get clarifications on non-technical knowhow. Getting upgraded in a career would be much more rewarding than getting some point here and there.

See a broader picture in your goal of life. Symantec Connect admin people are smart enough to know what is right for whom and will reward someone who deserves to be rewarded (like erikw). It's their perogative and let it be.

More points for thorough articles

Seems one use to be able to get more points for indepth articles.  I am working on getting a Kindle and running out of ideas for articles.  :-)

Makes sense over all.

I think that the way they are going with articles now makes a lot more sense.  Think about it, before you would get 500 points whether the article was good or bad. That is the equivalent of a $75 gift card to amazon.  Now they there is the potential to get a lot of points, but it is all based on the quality of the article and getting positive votes.

On the other hand, I agree that while this is not a support forum, responses to questions and problems did happen quicker when there were more points to be earned by providing a response.

All in all, it is nice that the provide points at all since most other forums do not do anything of the sort.

No complaints here.

knowledge that we get participating is PRICELESS...

As Symantec Connect matures so does the rating system...

It is better that before...
none is being deleted ( with a few exceptions to offensive talk)... letting you speak freely without offending your co-members... with that you are given points... Better to give more to the one that solves the issue rather than giving everyone the same number of points...

We can now show how we appreciate an article or blog by voting and giving them more points as a bonus... voting down a useless or irrelevant comment would make us think twice not to be voted down...

Prizes are perks that put spice in the forum but the knowledge that we get participating is PRICELESS...

Technical Info + Rewards -> It`s worth.

I find this portal with excellent technical information and a good rewards structure.
