NIC Driver Issue Using Ghost on a Dell E6400 or E6500

Aug 11, 2010 03:41 PM

The WinPE NIC driver for the Intel 82567 NIC from Intel's web site does not work on Dell e6400's or e6500's. Either use PC-DOS or get a special version of the NIC driver for use with WinPE from Dell's web site.

NOTE: The executable that you download is a self-extracting executable. If you run it, you will have the option to specify to where the files should be extracted and saved. The executable will continue at that pont and will attempt to locate drivers for the version of Windows you are running where you downloaded the driver file. It may fail, but the files in the driver will be extracted. This will allow Ghost to access the driver files. For details about adding the driver, see the link below.

NOTE: There can be cases where one computer uses the Intel 82567 NIC driver from Dell's web site and another computer uses the Intel 82567 NIC driver from Intel's web site. To accomodate this discepancy, make a copy of the WinPE database specifically for the e6400's or e6500's. In that copy, disable the 82567 NIC driver that came from Intel's web site. In the original PE database, disable the Intel 82567 NIC driver from Dell's web site. When using Ghost with those types of computers, be sure to use the copy of the PE database rather than the original. The database can be specified when using the Console by double clicking on the Client computer icon and click on Client > Virtual Partition PreOS. If you are using the GhostCast Server, use the correct PE database when creating boot disks with the Boot Wizard.
