Nick Elmer's blog

When your users are mobile, protecting their data requires applications that detect a network presence and copy the data up to the network for backup during a regular nightly backup job. In Backup Exec 2010 and earlier versions (going back to the 10.x days), a Backup Exec option called the Desktop and Laptop Option (DLO) did just that.

Hello again! Today I want to talk about a new feature introduced in Backup Exec 2012. Many will refer to it as the Add Server Wizard, but it is so much more than that. The goal was to provide users a way to perform agent installs directly from the Backup Exec User Interface. We achieved that goal and went further.

It has been awhile since my last post, and I apologize for that absence! Our team (myself included) has been diligently working on the next big release of Backup Exec (2012)! There are many changes in the new user interface that we think you will love. However, I don’t want to focus on those items, as there are many other blog contributors who are already talking about those.

Hello,
It has been a couple weeks since my last post, and so I am going to make today’s post somewhat short, but hopefully still insightful.

So, your backup server is a few years old and you find yourself in need of a newer, bigger, better, faster one. Just one problem, you want/need to keep your data from Backup Exec for compliance reasons. You have the perfect server that is ready to take on this new role. It is some new 64 bit monster with Windows 2008 R2, tons of I/O capacity, memory, disk space and more.

My name is Nick Elmer and I’m a developer on the Backup Exec Install Team. I started with the company over 13 years ago in support(during the Seagate Software days), then I spent a few years after that in our quality assurance team(during the VERITAS Software days), and finally, I transitioned into a developer role.
