Outlook 2011
There has been alot of traffic recently around Enterprise Vault support for Outlook 2011 so I thought I'd take this opportunity to discuss this topic.
Outlook 2011 is a new email client from Microsoft that improves and enhancements the previous Microsoft Mac based email client aka Entourage. Outlook 2011 was made generally available on the 26th of October and demand is expected to be high, especially for those already using Entourage as their main Mac email client.
As a result we are already hard at work generating an Enterprise Vault client that will be compatible with this new email client and efforts are well underway. As Outlook 2011 is a brand new client from Microsoft, and not an Entourage upgrade, work will take longer than just certifying a release however I expect to be able to communicate our plans to make this client available to market in the near future.
In the meantime I'd like to hear abour your plans for Outlook 2011 and timescales behind adoption....
Alex.

Thanks for taking the time to
Thanks for taking the time to put this up here Alex, I'm sure it'll be valuable for the community.
Outlook 2011
We have a fairly sizable Mac user community in our company. Users have been looking forward Office 2011 since it was announced. We have purchased and began to roll-out 2011 installation since the day it was released. The feedback has been all positive so far as it relates to Outlook vs Entourage. Adding EV functionality to Outlook 2011 is the missing piece of the puzzle. This means that users will no longer have to 'live' in thier VM's of Windows to have full access to thier vaulted emails anymore.
Thansk for the effort in getting this client released.
While Outlook 2011 was
While Outlook 2011 was generally available on 10/26, it was available on 9/19 to Enterprise customers (i.e. - those who use Enterprise Vault).
Symantec likes to say they don't want to begin development of clients to support these new versions while in Beta or RC as features are subject to change. I can buy that but don't insult everyone by quoting general availablity dates when your product is targeted towards Enterprises who have access to the RTM 30-90 days before that. This may make Symantec feel better about the extended times to support these new products but it just pours salt in the wounds of those who are watching the clock tick by...
I do have to agree with you
I do have to agree with you on the release times. We got, tested and started rolling out Office 2011 the 3rd and 4th week of Sept. I've personally been using Office 2011 since Sept. 23rd.
Thanks for the Update
Thanks for the product update. To answer your question, we have a pretty sizable Mac population at our company and Office 2011 is alreay rolled out to over 90% of the Mac users. EV has been the biggest concern/pain for IT and the user base. Just as Entourage support was really rampng up, Office switched to Outlook. This was a very welcome switch and Outlook 2011 was the main driver for the rapid upgrade.
Hope to see EV support for this client very soon.
As a media company, our Mac
As a media company, our Mac user base is almost as large as Windows and we plan to migrate to Outlook 2011 Q1 next year. While we're not yet EV customers, we're budgeting to purchase, but only if and when complete Outlook 2011 support is available. Thanks.
Thanks Alex
Hi Alex,
We have a couple of customers about to commence upgrade to Outlook 2011 within the next 3-6 months so an Outlook 2011 client will certainly be very welcome.
Thanks for the update.

Symantec Product Management team looking for adoption rate.
I've been speaking to Symantec support on this and have been told that the Symantec Product Management team are looking for feedback on the adoption rate of Outlook 2011.
The more companies we can get on this blog, the greater the chance a solution will be on offer soon.
We have multiple office across the world that have departments using Mac's.
Desperate to get away from Entourage but as we've only just managed to get the Entourage EV add in working won't be making the move to Outlook 2011 until there's an add in released.
Please make it a similar experience to Ms Outlook 2003/2007 client add-in, the toolbar option is a pain.
EV for outlook 2011
We are in the progress of migrating to a new domain, we waited for EV9 to be able to run off the windows 2008 R2 platform for almost a year, (althou the initial and official symantec response was within 90 days of release) we are now happy to have it installed but we would like to avoid waiting for outlook 2011 support for another year as we are more than willing to drop off entourage 2008 for our Mac clients as we are about to reinstall all clients with windows 7 and Macos 10.6.x with office 2011.

I have seen a huge adoption
I have seen a huge adoption of the Outlook 2011 for Mac. Also I believe the RC is there for developers to start testing their product to reduce lead times. One hopes that there is no major changes from an RC as it is near release code.
Cheers,

Large Mac population, want support for EV on Outlook 2011
I support the Microsoft Exchange environment for an organization in which approximately 800 users have Mac and 100 users have Windows. Entourage is horrible. We are eagerly testing and validating Outlook 2011 and hope to begin general deployment in Q1 2011. Enterprise Vault support is a critical requirement. Hopefully Symantec will be able to move forward with us in a timely fashion.
Mac Adoption is growing
Mac adoption is growing. We do have request for 2011 support.
400 Staff, ~5% Mac users - Outlook 2011 EV Support keenly sought
We have an Exchange 2007 Environment for an organisation of ~400 Full Time Staff, of which Mac Users account for approximately 5%.
Entourage has never really suited our organisation, which makes extensive use of Public Folders, Shared Mailboxes and Calendars, etc. We have been funneling those users who required Enterprise Vault functionality through an Outlook 2003 Citrix session.
I was therefore delighted when Outlook 2011 was announced, and more so again when it just worked straight out of the box with these shared corporate resources.
While so far usage of Outlook 2011 is restricted to myself and another member of the IT team, we are hoping to recommend the product as the product for the organisations Mac users as soon as we possibly can. While we can continue to funnel these users through Citrix for those times when they need archived emails, we are waiting hopefully for this release.
Thankyou to Symantec for letting us know it's in the pipeline.
have already deployed 2011
This was something out Mac users really wanted and we moved ahead and did the upgrade. Really need the support for EV for this now.
us too...
Just as my customer is pushing out the Entourage client, we're being asked about Outlook 2011...
Deploying 2011 and E-Vault 9.0.1
We have been deploying Outlook 2011 on the Mac since October. We will begin deploying E-Vault Archiving to our production environment in 30 days. Any chance of getting a beta or RC client out by then?
We are pretty deperate for this!
We are just about to start our migration of users to Exchange 2010. About 2000 ot our 10000 plus users are Mac people. Most hate Entourage, so a move to 2011 rather than the EWS version of Entourage is keenly supported. But we would need an EV cleint for this to be successful.

Any chance we could get even
Any chance we could get even a rough timeframe for this? Ie last quarter of the year sort of thing. I have a few guys on 2011 without a easy way to access thier archived mail.
We will be delivering an
We will be delivering an Outlook 2011 client in the EV 10 release this year.
The client will offer a similiar level of functionality as currently offered to Entourage users.
no interm solution? so i
no interm solution?
so i guess the next logical question, and they has probably been asked in another thread, is what is the ev 10 ETA?
Hopefully you've already seen
Hopefully you've already seen that Enterprise Vault 10 has already been released. The Outlook 2011 client is therefore available in the EV 10 kit.
I know that this is slightly
I know that this is slightly off topic. But Symantec's PGP Desktop 10.2 now supports Outlook 2011 for mail proxying and email decryption. just a note for those searching for Outlook 2011 support on PGP.
