This morning, Symantec announced our intention to acquire Gideon Technologies, Inc., a provider of standards-based information security solutions that automate and orchestrate IT security and risk management. For the Symantec Public Sector team, this announcement is significant because it provides further evidence of our commitment to provide public sector customers with leading Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP)-validated configuration and vulnerability assessment solutions. If you are not familiar with SCAP, it is a suite of specifications that standardize the format by which security software products communicate. Symantec recently participated in the 5th Annual IT Security Automation Conference held by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the National Security Agency (NSA) to provide our support and vision for supporting this critical government requirement. The use of SCAP enables interoperability and sharing data within this environment is essential to address the evolving threat landscape. The government faces a number of challenges in the area of cyber security, and this announcement demonstrates yet another way that Symantec is committed to helping meet these challenges.
