Planning & Implementation design, or plan & design, Architecture doc !

How, where to find the latest Architecture, Planning, Implementation and Design Guide for Altiris

There was a time where we were not having any "Architecture" guideline documentation for such complex Altiris framework... Now, we have a lot, and when TECHs are talking about the "Design" doc, they are not always talking about the same. ;-P

I found main 4 below: Please, provide any additional, update you’ll find in there :)

Symantec Management Platform Architecture and Design - Version 1.1 - (all the same doc name display 1.0 :)

http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO30370 (last update 2010-07-15) 27 pages

Altiris IT Management Suite 7.1 SP2 from Symantec Planning and Implementation Guide

That is the OFFICIAL one ! 350 pages !

http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC4827  (last update 2012-05-07

Updating the previous older below: care not fall on those KB and thinking valid one, a shame Symantec does not links good one :(

Altiris IT Management Suite 7.1 SP1 from Symantec Planning and Implementation Guide

http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC3464

Yes, that is a problem: You can “subscribe” like I do the previous version of the Design Guide, you will never receive notify for a latest doc. Also rarely updated into the previous version, a newer version exist or link to. :-(

OLDER, shortest: Altiris 7.0 Planning and Implementation Guide -- v1.2 (57 pages)

http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO9811

Seth Seppanen makes a recent update this doc (2012-01-10), but it is about 7.0 version, Content are interesting because also mostly true for 7.1, but not rely on for a 7.1 architecture validation.

Hi, thanks.

Although the KB shows it was updated recently, page 4 of the document shows it was authored in 2009.  There was an update in April 2011 but only to update SQL and capacity info.

The new Planning and Implementation guide for 7.1 can be found here (and is included in the index article I provided above):

No, I got a lot of garbage... :(

Why this obsolete planning doc 7.0, just updated from Symantec ? Is it for 7.0 users, or because valid architecture overview for both 7.0 and 7.1 ? I wonder same as you, if obsolete or no.

That is a good preview, all the same for 7.1 usage.

or Infrastructure Operations Support Articles but not the Backup, Security or Storage ones?

The planning doc you reference is for 7.0.  No one should be planning a 7.0 implementation at this point and quite a bit has changed with 7.1 so I would not rely on the old docs.  I believe what you are looking for is this index which includes an index of all the 7.1 SP2 documentation links.

But some delay before the indexing there :)

"Symantec Management Platform and Altiris Solutions Support Matrix"

http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO9965

"IT Management Suite 7.1 SP2 Documentation"

http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC4893

"Altiris Endpoint Management Migrations to 7.1"

Symantec should edit support articles to provide a link to the updated doc, "Related Articles", when one is released. Then subscribers would get a notification.

Even better an RSS feed of all new Support Articles.
