Prepare yourself for the Symantec Licensing Portal

May 14, 2010 11:50 AM

Hello fellow Altiris users...
In the last few weeks, Symantec has retired (well, mostly...more on that later) the old Altiris Licensing Portal we all know and (sometimes) loved.  Now you must download your licenses through the Symantec Licensing Portal.  Maybe I'm just not that sharp, but I had a heck of a time trying to download my Altiris licenses recently.  So a bit of an FYI, after sending a frustrated email to support, I received the following response:

When logged into the license portal select the "License Management" tab from the home page in the license portal. Scroll down to where it says "Search Your License Catalog". Click on the link where it says "Advanced Search". Then scroll down and select the correct customer number from the list. This will list all available licenses. Click "View Details" to view the license information and on the click the button that says "Combine Licenses". You will be given two options. I recommend to select "Combine All".

Well after I did this, I did finally get to the right page, and what do I find when I click on the Combine Licenses link, I arrived at a page which IE shows as coming from the good old http://lindon.extranet.altiris.com/lmp!  Here I was finally able to get to the old style combine licenses interface (with some new tweaks, such as listing all the purchases my company has made globally on one screen).  So, if your AUP is coming up, be sure to familiarize yourself with the new Licensing site as it may take a bit of getting used to!

FYI:  I had an opened case and recieved this back as thier response.  I must say, it did work.  I had recently 'upgraded' my licenses and allthough I don't know how some of them would combine, I was able to combine some (I thought thier would be more).  Since everyone purchases licenses differently, and can (still) purchase some solutions a la carte, your mileage may vary!

Here are the steps on how to combine the licenses in Licensing Portal:

1. Go to “Manage My Licenses”,
2. Select “Advanced Search”,
3. Then simply click on “Search”.
4. All the companies registered licenses will be displayed on the next page. Find the product you would like to download (choose the most recent/valid license as combining cannot be done without valid maintenance) and then click on “View Details”.
5. Click on “Combine Licenses” button. It will pop out a new window.
6. In the new window, there are two options to combine licenses.
Option 1 will combine all the licenses under this Licensing Portal account no matter which company it belongs to. You can just click on the “Download Now” button to download the combined license file.
Option 2, tick the company name that the license you want to combine and also tick “new licenses”.
7. Select the component that you want to combine, click on “add” to move the license you want to combine from left to the right side.
8. Click “Download Now” to download the new combined license component.
