Removing HP Trial License in Altiris

jsjj01's picture

A funny thing happened to me when trying to install the unlimited license for the HP Client Manager solution in Altiris—it didn't install. Read on to see how I fixed this.

I copied the contents of the license file and pasted it into the Install License File area of Altiris. Once I clicked on "Install License" it came back and stated the license installed successfully. However, when I went back to view the license, it still showed the 100 limit trial license.

I tried it again, this time selecting to import the license from a file—with the same results.

How did I resolve this? The first thing I needed to do was to find out how to remove the trial license for HPCMS. I accomplished this by clicking on Start -> Run and then typed mmc. I then added the certificate snap-in and selected the Certificates folder under Altiris. Going by the expiration date, I was able to determine which license I needed to remove.

I simply right-clicked on the license file and selected delete. Once the trial license was deleted, the permanent license file installed automatically. Hope this helps someone out there.

Good

This method will work for any Altiris license key that you may be having issues with, especially machines that you update a lot such as demo equipment.

license issues

In Deployment Solution 6.1 there was an issue with this, and also a patch to fix it.

But it is always the best way to delete the temporary license, before importing the real ones.
