On 28 May 2014, 56 security professionals from the public and private sectors took up the Cyber Readiness Challenge in Malaysia.
The exciting four-hour interactive competition to capture the most flags provides a rare opportunity for the participants to put their security knowledge in action, sharpen their skills and compete against their peers through a cyber game.
Here are some photos of the participants in action during the intense competition:
The inaugural competition in Malaysia is designed for all levels of technical expertise and puts participants in the role of a cyber attacker seeking to infiltrate and exploit an organisation. It consists of a five-step Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) scenario which include reconnaissance, incursion, discovery, capture and exfiltration.
"The competition helps participants to understand the thought process of cybercriminals – who they target, how they identify security loopholes, and how they then gain access into organisations to steal confidential information and orchestrate cyber attacks,” said Josephine Hoh, Country Director of Symantec Malaysia.
“It was great to see so many IT professionals with a strong passion for cyber security and we hope the competition has inspired them to continue sharpening their strategic and tactical security skills,” added Hoh.
Here’re the winners of the competition:
- Champion: Team TL from CIMB Bank Berhad
- First Runner-up: Team WSPL from DHL Information Services (Asia-Pacific) Sdn Bhd and e-Genting Holdings Sdn Bhd
- Second Runner-up: Team P-Man from Hewlett-Packard Malaysia
Participants with security certificates, such as CISSP and CISA, were also awarded with four-hour credits of CPE.
Malaysia was one of the stops of the Cyber Readiness Challenge tour in over 27 locations across the globe, including London, Paris, Barcelona, Mountain View, New York, Seoul and Singapore.
