 Keeping system folder to a minimum comes very handy in term of backup still to small might result in System running out of disk space which causes SEP and the whole system performance to lag
How to proceed?

1. On safe mode cut past the Symantec Endpoint folder content on a different location
2. create a clean partition
3. Windows + R type diskmgmt.msc
4. Right click on the new partition and select New Partition
5. Follow the instructions until you reach Assign Drive Letter or Path section
6. Select Mount in the following empty NTFS folder radio button and select Browse…
7. Highlight the C: drive and click on Symantec empty Folder
8. Complete the wizard
9. Copy back the Symantec Endpoint folder content
10. Reboot the system

Just remember to keep this action documented in the server history

in case you realise SEP content folder keeps growing follow the steps below

Stop Symantec Endpoint management service

modify this file
Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\etc\conf.properties

add
scm.lucontentcleanup.threshold=1

then start Symantec Endpoint management service after deleting all GUIDs folders in \Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Inetpub\content

GIIDs look as follows.
{1CD85198-26C6-4bac-8C72-5D34B025DE35}
{42B17E5E-4E9D-4157-88CB-966FB4985928}

Fix - configure live update

The setting scm.lucontentcleanup.threshold=1 no longer works with the current version of Endpoint.  You want to configure the live update settings cache using the management console instead.

  1. Admin tab
  2. Servers (at the bottom)
  3. Right click on "Local Site" and choose properties"
  4. Live update tab
  5. Set "Number of revisions to keep" to less than 30.  I set mine to 3 and it brought the size down to 2GB and doesn't seem to be going up from there.  I do not know how this affects the distribution of the console as i'm assuming Symantec has a reason to want to keep 30 around.

You might have to stop the Endpoint managament service and delete all the GUID's in the content folder for it to reset.  I'm not sure if setting this down to 3 will clear out this folder for you or not.

For kicks, I went to look at the storage requirements for SEP and it still claims that for a 32bit install you need 4GB for the management console and 4GB for the database.  Then I tried to chat with a sales rep to see if they could update the marketing materials but the chat program wouldn't work on Win7 with IE8.

On another side note, our management console never reports up to date information about what version of antivirus defnitions our clients have.  But if you visit the clients they say they are up to date and happy.  Sometimes if you rebooth both servers, they will start pushing updates again and report correct informatino for a while, but then it'll stop at that point.  We have 2 SEP servers with 4000 clients each and it just doesn't manage them well.
