is this a sales conference again, i hope not !!!!!!!!!!!
why is the catalogue sounding like a sales conference rather than a technical conference where people and teams come together to get more value from the products they have or are going to implement or are looking to implement !
the last time a sales event was run in europe to the technical teams attending the general concensus was that it was a waste of time and money .
i understand that there needs to be a mix of technical, networking and sales events, but making more than 85% of the events sales speeches is a bit of a hard sell !
bring back the technical streams that are relevant please.
Sessions promoting few products again?
Hi,
I've been looking thru the session catalogue and seriously wonder why there is i.e. only a single session for topics like:
What I see are a number of sessions about the Cloud - have Sales people moved to the Cloud as of yet?
Any chance to change these schedules for the really interesting stuff?
Thanks.
technical streams for existing customers
is Vision a technical conference for existing customers, or an opportunity to sell on to exsiting customers about cloud, san, endpoint protection etc ???
i'd like to be able to get value from products i already have, and see them being used in real world scenarios, not upselling products because someone has been told a product can do something wonderfull (some actualy can)
i'd like to be able to ask people about workflow, sean, rob and a variety of others and see how the product can be used in the real world to do PCI compliance, achieve better efficiencies in administration, servicing customers needs, etc,
cloud computing, excellent when the solutions are actualy available, vs. the hype then show me how they are able to be integrated, don't talk them up and rant and rave, because so many companies can and are doing that still ..
technical streams for existing customers
Hi James,
We appreciate your open and honest feedback and certainly like to align our content with your expectations.
This year Vision has 120 breakout sessions and 48 labs of which the majority is rated as intermediate or expert sessions.
The hands-on-labs will deep dive into the product or solution features while moving away from a pure selling pitch. We are targeting technical experts like yourself. Apart from the technical sessions you will also have the opportunity to schedule a 1to1 expert meetings with your respective Product Managers to share best practices and give valuable input on configurations and necessary product extensions.
You are right, it needs to be a healthy balance of technical feedback, networking and sales opportunities, however, we are primareley focussing on the demands of our technical customers and thus are confident in getting the company's excellence of product managers and champions to the show.
Please let me know with whom you want to talk and what you're conference objectives are.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Barcelona.

technical streams for existing customers
Hi Tom,
Many thanks for adding this input. I believe one of the main difference here is the technical content is similar though you will find the number of repeats less during Vision. The main reason for this is that we have started to also add the ability to take self-paced labs which where not possible in previous events. If it is not possible to attend the Instructor led lab then you could take the lab in the self-paced lab and then schedule a 1-1 with the product management or regional product management in attendence.
We also will have a large attendence from Product Management and all EMEA Regional Product Management at Vision.
If you have any additional feedback i would really appreciate. Look forward to catching up at Barcelona.
Many Thanks,
so what i'm hearing is that
so what i'm hearing is that we don't actualy need to go to barcelona, symantec can simply enable the lab's and hand's on sessions via the cloud and we don't need so listen to 'sales people
i do appreciate the ability to listen to sales people who can talk about products, but i appreciate more the comments from customers and their issues so that i can fit their comments into my environment or at the least understand their infrastructure and short comings of the product in a real world scenario,
i was going to mention a string of brand name companies in an effort to highlight the concensus for technical presentation streams vs sales presentation streams but it sounds like sounds like next year i won't be scheduling a vision event, rather i will be scheduling more cloud based classes for my teams..
i thought we had this happen a couple of years ago and that the lessons had been learned, but obviously the issue is about to come full circle again ...
good luck for next year..
Barcelona for the "Generalists" and Vegas for the "Specialists"
Hi,
I posted a comment last year regarding this but no response why I welcome this discussion this year...
I agree a lot with "BBC" and "james_g" and have been trying to give Symantec this feedback regarding the last EMEA Visions.
Since EMEA Vision now not offer many more sessions on all Symantec products and technology in total than Managefusion previously did just around the Altiris products has a lot of the depth disappeared. The same thing applies also for the other Symantec products. Whether you are a pure specialist on Storage Foundation, Software Management, ServiceDesk, NetBackup or the most other products is it hard/impossible to get a good agenda together. If you though are working with a little bit of several products/technologies you will get a good agenda together.
A fact from Vision Barcelona last year was also that a lot of the "real" Symantec product specialists/managers/owners from US did not attend.
For our company the result is that this year we will send the most of our specialists that requires depth to Vegas and more broader people or specialists that have not been working with Symantec products so long time and would benefit a broader picture to Barcelona. The same thing do we recommend to our customers. SMB customers with multiple Symantec solutions to Barcelona and specialist technicians at larger customers to Vegas.
See you in Barcelona and Vegas!
Vision Feedback
Many thanks for the honest feedback and it is greatly appreciated.
Regarding the sessions, we are focusing the majority of the sessions to be technical content and not sales focused. I understand that the number of sessions since ManageFusion has reduced, we do try to ensure that the content is continuosly updated and each Vision is containing new technical content. You will find several sessions focused at Implementation and Planning, Migration and Workflow creation etc... As well as new sessions like Patching 3rd Party applications, Advanced Server Health Monitoring and Mobile Management.
We are also ensuring that the product owners and technical leads for the products will all be at Vision Barcelona to ensure that the interaction is directly to those who can make the changes and difference.
I as a product owner will be presenting and the content will be technical focused.
Kind Regards,
