There is a new technote entitled "Best Practices for using Storage Lifecycle Policies in NetBackup 6.5.3 and 6.5.4". This essential document, authored by engineering, support and product management, documents best practices, and is based on consolidated information obtained from real world experiences.

If you are planning to implements SLPs or already have, becoming familiar with the suggestions in the documents will allow you to both tune your systems for your workload and gain insight into the current state of your lifecycles.

If you aren't familiar with Storage Lifecycle Policies, also known as SLP's, they are one of the more innovative approaches I've seen in the last few years for to allow a user to describe a life cycle for a backup data, without creating complex nests of overlapping schedules. If you aren't familiar with SLPs you can read more in the white paper entitled, “NetBackup Disk Based Data Protection Options”. We’ve been refining and improving SLPs since their original release in 6.5 and we've got more enhancements coming in the next few releases, so stay tuned.

Hi Spartacus81, you should log this as a separate issue. To get you started, look at the nbstlutil command (See the NetBackup Commands guide), which can be used to report and manage storage lifecycles (SLPs) including AIR-related ones in the target domain.

Here is the most recent version of this: Best practices for using Storage Lifecycle Policies and Auto Image Replication in NetBackup 7.1, http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...

So far, we've been told this is applicable to NBU 7.5.

I spoke too soon... here's a newer one: NetBackup 7.5 Best Practice - Using Storage Lifecycle Policies, http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO73205

Although the title says it's about SLPs, the actual document's title is when you open it is a bit more expansive: NetBackup 7.5 Best Practice: Managing backups, snapshots, duplication and replication including Auto Image Replication and Replication Director using Storage Lifecycle Policies

Thanks Tomer. I have tried all possible parameters within nbstlutil command to cancel the pending import images but no joy. i have a seperate thread for that issue but am not getting any replies on that. would you be kind enough to have a look. All the details to help you understand the problem is in there. No all those imags have expired long ago but SLP is still processing and trying to import them. here is the thread link. thanks again.
