SVS Error 1089 Explained
Updated: 29 Jul 2010 | 3 comments
A lot of people are experiencing error 1089 in the use of SVS. Some of them get this error for days, weeks or even months after using SVS.
The error 1089 means that the driver is not loaded correctly.
I found a program that can cause this. It is installutil, and some installers use it to register services. After the reboot you get a 1089 error.
This is because installutil seems to corrupt fslx.sys.
You can resolve this by going to c:\windows\system32\drivers, and copy a fresh fslx.sys to replace the corrupted one.

SVS error 1089
We saw this issue with version 2.1 and version 2.1 SP2.
The isue described has nothing to do with SVS, but is caused by installutil.
i saw another tool that ceases if fslx.sys is present, and that is the softgrid client.

Uh, so where do I get the flsx.sys? ,...and I don't mean to one that is already corrupted? I installed Threatfire, which is supposed to be used in addition to an antivirus program. I have Avast installed on the computer and Threatfire installed via SVS (which I admit was prob a mistake, when I quarantined everything it suggested and restarted, hotkey and wbutton for my laptop cannot be loaded). Anyway, when I restarted, the Threatfire entry was still active, even though I didn't check "start automatically", and when I tried to deactivate, reset, or delete the entry, all I got was ERROR 1089, and Threatfire does not show up in the tray or in the program list. Am I doomed? I feel stuck.
