What are the fixes in this release?

The release notes don't list any issues resolved . We are about to deploy 6.1.4063 and want to know what is resolved in version 6.1.4108

6.1.4063 wasn't a public

6.1.4063 wasn't a public release so you shouldn't be deploying it, that being said most of the fixes are related to Patch, Create New Reset Point and some stability (blue screens).  But I can't list all of them here because there were a lot of significant changes from 4063 to 4108 (in effect MP1 is more list SP1).

?? not public

that is kind of funny as we asked that question twice and we were told that 4063 was the released version. I would greatly appreciate it if you had more details on the issues fixed from the two versions

I talked to a few people

I talked to a few people about this and here's what they said.  4108, the MP, is the first full release of 6.1 so we're treating all documentation as if there wasn't a 4063 release, which was a limited supported release, so we're not listing changes between 4063 only between 2.1 and 6.1.4108.

As I mentioned before Patch was heavily changed so any VPA (patch archive) that was created with 4063 will not work with 4108 and will have to be recreated--this is the only change I can think of between the two builds that will actually affect people using 4063.

If there was a KB article on a bug that was reported for 4063 then that KB article will be updated to show any fixes.

It wasn't a public release

It wasn't a public release meaning you had to get it from a SE as it contained some compatibility issues with Streaming.

free version for personal use (KB 45645 )

I tested the Altiris SVS 2.1 at Home using the free version for personal use (yes, I'm also interested for professional reasons but at the moment this is much easier for me than going the official way in my company).

As many other people here I find this peace of software really terrific and was waiting eagerly for this new version, because I hope, that it will solve some issues I still have.

I managed to download SWV 6.1 MP1 as a trial version. Is there a technical limiation (time, resources,....)?

KB: Article 45645 says that (like in 2.1) there's also a free version for personal use and points to http://www.symantec.com/connect/ but I didn't find any information about that.

Free for personal use is not

Free for personal use is not time-bombed, because we really want people to use this at home or on personal machines, but the website you go through to get it is called "Trial Ware" so that can be confusing.

Eval key is Personal key?

Does this mean, that the eval key that is provided with the Trial Ware download is the Personal key without time-bomb? BTW. I am very happy to see is installs on Windows 7.

SWV and UPHClean issue, how to overcome?

Finally the SWV6.1 version is released! We really were waiting for it...but

After reading the release_notes I mentioned the following:

  • first quote from the release_notes:

Multiuser environments: Individual users on shared systems, such as Citrix and Terminal Server, now have their individual settings stored with a layer. Previously, all changes made by any user on the system were stored in the same location.

  • second quote from the release_notes:

SWV on a computer with UPHClean causes log off lock up
If a computer has Microsoft's User Profile Hive Cleanup service (UPHClean) running, the computer tends to freeze at "Saving your settings ..." if Software Virtualization is installed. This problem occurs even when no layers are active.

Well actually when you use Citrix you need UPHClean to overcome profile problems (long logoffs, profile inconsitansy etc...) So do I now understand that we can't still use Citrix at a proper way with SWV6.1.
btw: the mentioned SWV/UPHClean issues looks the same as they were at de SWV2.1 release

Is there a way to overcome this issue?

Best regards

They take a very long time to time out. But is anyone else having problems with downloading swv 6.1. Very interested.

When will SWV 6.1 be integrated with NS7 ?

So that you could use detectionrules on svs-packages for managed software delivery?

Yep - I agree, so bad no "smart" detection rule for SVS/SWV

I just feel CMS7, all the same SP1, is still not completely finished ! I will try to publish a "feature request" collection... there are a lot.

I wish 64bit _Virtual Wise packager would come faster

I really wish the 64bit Windows 7 version would come before Q1 of next year . We are planning our windows 7 migration around 64bit bit and we are also looking for the Virtual Wise Repacker VS the minor functionality of the SWV client . I hope they also intigrate all this into NS6 and NS7
