Symantec’s New Direction
By Steve Bennett, President and CEO, Symantec
Symantec’s strategy is clear: We want to enable people, businesses and countries to focus their energies and time on achieving their aspirations, instead of being consumed with how to keep their digital lives safe and protected. This is a story about more focus and better execution by Symantec to make things better and easier for our customers and partners. Our path is straightforward: Offer better products and services tailor made for customers, and make it easier for them to research, shop, buy, use, and get the help and support they need.
There is a huge set of underserved and unmet needs that customers are experiencing with regards to protecting, moving and managing their information on multiple devices. With our resources and know-how, we are in a better position to meet those needs than anyone. We have the infrastructure to deliver real value to help customers and this new strategy will improve both our focus and execution. We also have the expertise to know and see what they’re going to need next. It’s a question of alignment and regaining focus on the current and future needs of customers via a renewed emphasis on innovation plus developing new technology.
Symantec is a strong company with leadership products, brands and great employees. Past leaders and employees of this company have left an outstanding legacy of assets for us to build upon as we move forward. The next step is to change things that allow us to adapt quicker to the marketplace, and in the end, continue Symantec’s tradition and high standards for delivering tremendous value to our employees, customers, partners and shareholders.

Hi Steve, I was in Best Buy a couple of weeks ago, trying to solve my family's own personal security and cloud dilemma at a pricepoint that wasn't prohibitive. With the couple of handfuls of devices that we have, a variety of platforms and cloud offerings from different vendors, I am hunting for a solution that fits. You probably know that no one was capable of helping me because there isn't anything on the market that can. Perhaps the new Symantec will be able to do this for me and my family in a way that will be simple to implement despite the complicated nature! Congratulations on your gutsy plan, and good luck with it.
Thanks Colleen. We believe that by implementing our strategy we will be able to help protect you and your family.
It is my personal opinion as well, to enable people about Symantec. I have faced reagions where Symantec still means Norton, forget about SSL and Data Protection.

Hi Steve, what will happen with the traditional Endpoint Management formerly Altiris? Does this fit into your strategy, or is there only space for mobile Systems, new Apps and Security Management? When will the new version Endpoint and Mobility Management (EMM) 7.5 released? Kind regards Ingo
I am following Ingo in this "future of Altiris" question. I see, and I understand you cannot deliver answer "now". But I must say it is difficult to keep us in confidence without. We see "Cloud-Based Information Management" in targets, and Altiris 7.5 is "Cloud ready", so we can hope… But we need more than hope for driving our EMM partner's business.
Anyway, I deeply thank Symantec doing this very critical security mission, to fight against Internet threads & piracy (and I am not talking only about “antivirus”, but also DeepSight and so on…). All my Androids and Windows devices at home are with Norton, and also use Parental controls. This last one if for free (the base solution), and I am happy Symantec there, for protecting me and my Families (2 child 9+12 years). What government & public entities should provide to “The Cloud”, I finally found only Symantec a real nice solution, all the same not perfect? It is a great humanity numeric “mission”, Symantec is of course not alone, happily, but Symantec is a great actor for such: Thanks. (And sorry my bad English)
I must say, Altiris provides also a very better solution for “patch” automation, with the integration of more 25 editors for Windows platform… And that is a big part of the worldwide security, as more than half of the “Zombie’s PCs” (Alias bot computers) are “enterprise computers”, and worst, more than half “security breaches” are not any more into “Microsoft” related, but other vendors (so not updated from WSUS). We are in a critical and in a hurry state to better “secure” our current Windows laptops, and future “tablets” & “mobiles”, in addition our remaining Desktops & servers. Thanks also for that Symantec.

Hi Ajit, Ingo and Srikanth, I hope we can change those perceptions as well. We feel that we have a strong portfolio of solutions and a great story to tell that extends beyond antivirus. While I won’t be discussing product roadmaps nor announcing new solutions in these comments, I too am confident that this strategy will give more confidence to our customers.
Thanks for the feedback..As Symantec Customer we are always confident
Thanks & Regards,

Hi all: I post below the communication we receive from our network:
So this is ending the "rumours" about "Altiris for sell", see on https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/reuters-symantec-looking-sell-altiris-division
I believe that is a wise communication, and a good strategy from Symantec.
Now we are all expecting a coming out a version 7.5 with a good quality, and efficient support for Windows 8. If not able to do a lot better the current DS 7.1 sp2, to be as easy to use & as same features level than current DS 6.9: Would be a very good Idea to provide a SP6 for DS 6.9 with a Windows 8 better support. (notice sp5 already Windows 8 supported, with some limitation).
Also important: should DS 7.5 be able to provide a basic software+hardware inventory as currently provided from DS 6,9.
See you, and thanks a lot to Mr Bennet this communication.

Thank You!
I'm desperately trying to resolve issues on Symantec's Control Compliance Suite v9 before upgrading to v11 but there are so many broken links to the manuals on Symantec's web page ( http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag... ) and customer support is palming me off to a another division of Technical Support ..... It's frustrating that I am having to exert all my energies to mitigating these obstacles when Support should be able to provide me the correct solution; a one stop shop would be ideal. I requested the information only to be provided with some documentation that is irrelevant.
Could somebody with some authority assist me ......
thanks
Pete
We moved the above post to the Control Compliance Suite forum here on Symantec Connect in an effort to get the question in front of the right team and assist the user as quickly as possible. The issue was resolved here: http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/im-desperat...
