Uninstalling Altiris Agents

Aug 02, 2007 12:17 PM

If you're troubleshooting or upgrading or for whatever reason you need to uninstall the Altiris Agent, here are the steps you can use to remove the Agent and all installed Solution Agents from a client machine (it could be easily scripted).

Commands to uninstall Altiris Agent:

  1. Run the following command line to remove the Altiris Agent using AeXAgentUtil.exe located by default at C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\AeXAgentUtil.exe /uninstallagents /clean (*)
  2. Delete the following Program Files folder if still present: C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent (**)
  3. Delete the following Registry key if still present: HKLM\Software\Altiris

* This will remove all sub-agents and attempt to cleanly remove the Altiris Agent from the system.

** This is best practice and could help if we have LoginScript checking existence of this folder.

Hello.
I have a problem with unistalling agent from Linux machine (Ubuntu).
Anybody know how to remove it?

During instalation there was an error, and the process did not complete correctly. Now I can't remove informations about installations, and after running install again, i get info that agent is already installed.

Hello,
Anyway to delete the Classes starting by Altiris (KB1995) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Classes > All sub items beginning with Altiris. without typing them one by one?
Thank You
Dom

I run the same 3 command line options in that same order and its worked well for me. I find the uninstall package is not always successful or thorough.

Switch /Clean from my experience is not working tis way - its not removing folder and registry key in my environment - don't want to say that it works this way everywhere - however here i have to do extra steps (i have scripted it to be done in one step - hope it will be published soon)

Is to use three switches, one after the other instead of all in the same syntax.
/DeleteDevices - Deletes known Altiris legacy device drivers.
/UninstallAgents - Deletes all registered agents.
/Clean - Attempts to completely remove the Agent. It will attempt to detect the relevant version and remove all files and registry entries.
I then delete the appropriate directories from the file system if remaining, as well as the appropriate registry folders if remaining, and then reboot the machine.
For full details of what can be done with the AeXAgentUtil.exe, simply drag and drop it into a DOS box and add the /? switch to it, as this will display its Help page.
