Using Altiris Patch Management for Dell Servers without an Internet Connection

This tip outlines the process that should be used to configure and maintain Altiris Patch Management Solution for Dell Servers in a network environment where the Altiris Notification Server does not have internet access. Check it out!

This tip outlines the process that should be used to configure and maintain Altiris Patch Management Solution for Dell Servers in a network environment where the Altiris Notification Server does not have internet access. This process should be repeated periodically to retrieve the latest updates published by Dell. NOTE: These tools are provided "AS IS" and are NOT supported by Altiris.

  1. Obtain Hardware Inventory Tool & Update Definitions
    1. From a machine with internet access & the .NET Framework installed, download the following .zip file.
      http://www.solutionsam.com/Imports/6_1/Patch/ UpdateRetriever.zip
    2. Launch the DellUpdateRetriever.exe from the extracted directory. This creates 2 folders: staging & Packages, and downloads necessary patches.
    3. Copy to the directory "C:\Program Files\Altiris\Patch Management\" (on the Altiris Server), the following 2 folders and 1 file: staging, Packages, and Patch_No_Internet.vbs.
    4. Click on "Patch_No_Internet.vbs"
      *Note: This script makes the necessary changes to pull Patches from the local server and not from the internet. It assumes Notification Server is installed to "C:\Program Files". Edit the script file if NS is installed to a different directory.
  2. Restart Import Actions
    1. From Configuration Tab -> Solution Settings -> SW Management -> Patch Management -> Server Settings -> Dell Settings
      1. Click the "Download Dell Hardware Inventory Tool" tree node
      2. In the right pane change the Download URL:
        http://www.solutionsam.com/Imports/6_1/Patch/Dell/ DellInvTool.cab
        to
        http://localhost/Imports/6_1/Patch/Dell/DellInvTool.cab
      3. Right-click "Download Dell Hardware Inventory Tool" -> "Start Task"
    2. From Configuration Tab -> Solution Settings -> SW Management -> Patch Management -> Server Settings -> Dell Settings
    3. Right-click "Import Dell Software Management Resources"-> "Start Task"

NOTE: Resources must import completely. Please refer to the notification.
