In the struggle for license control I found a website that has a very cool initiative.

You have a Windows XP license, what about for the rest? Go totally freeware.

The only application that is missing in this article is SVS. Free for home and personal use.

Freeware for on-the-go

Thanks for pointing out that site, Erik! Lots of great apps are listed there.

PortableFreeware.com is a site I've used frequently. It focuses on freeware apps that can be used from a USB drive. It's helped me build a pretty good portable USB toolbox.

Open Source Software

Nice website, the 51 essential programs are really suggested to mantain a computer with only open-source software.
I'd like suggest to take a look also in the Wikiipedia article List of open source software packages, for a large list of Open Source programs.
