Wake on LAN (WOL) Utility

daggy_b's picture

We just implemented the EZ EnergyStar GPO into our Active Directory and set all computers to go into standby mode after 50 minutes. We noticed that when implemented this GPO, Altiris DS would not wake them up. I have since been using this utility to wake up computers before sending jobs to them.

I mostly use the DOS commands for this utility because I can script them in a Deployment Job.

It is a free tool and it will work on your LAN, plus it is supposed to work over the Internet. I have only tried it over the Internet once, but it did not work for me.

Here is a link explaining how to use the WOL utility via a command line:

Here is a link with information on what to use for port number:

Here's where you can download the utility as well as get more information:

Here is a link from the same company with a tool to do WOL with Multicasting:

Thanks this may be helpful

Thanks this may be helpful to us. We have been having problem killing the database when we remotely wake 1500 machines up using DS. I will definitely have to look into this tool.
