The score of forum posts is determined by the net number of votes (thumbs up and thumbs down) for a particular topic. Only authenticated users are able to vote for forum topics. Authors receive points for each thumbs up they receive.

Authenticated users are users
Authenticated users are users who are logged in to the site. All users have the ablity to vote.
It is a gauge on th enumber

It is rather subjective though...
