WSUS 3.0 Guide
Updated: 18 May 2007 | 2 comments
We just got a new server, and I need to install a number of applications on it. One of them is WSUS 3.0 (Windows Server Update Services). This free download from Microsoft allows you to control what Windows Updates your computers or servers download and install. It is really handy tool and can really help you maintain the computers you manage.

In my network is running
In my network is running the WSUS 2.0.0.2472 , this really helpful to define, select, test and deploy all MS patches coming from Microsoft to all corporate clients.
As I see in this new version, WSUS has improved performance and more reporting features are now available. Other new features are the ability to create nested computer groups and new delegation capability.

Patch Management Solution
Why bother with Microsoft WSUS when Altiris has Patch Management which is multi purpose and integrated with other solutions?
Personally, I think WSUS is useful in very small organizations that do not have 1000s of computers to manage and have no budget. Otherwise, in the enterprise this is not going to be the best solution.
