XML Editor

If you have ever used Notepad or Wordpad to modify the XML of a Report or other item, you've no doubt experienced an invalid format file format error when trying to import this item, as these two tools do not retain the XML format.
To prevent this from happening, an XML Editor should be used.
I have been using Crimson Editor for such occasions for quite some time now http://www.crimsoneditor.com, however, Microsoft has released their XML Notepad 2007 tool. You can get your own copy here.
Both tools are free to use, which is always a good thing. :-)

Notepad++
While it doesn't validate XML, you can't beat the syntax highlighting and indentation of Notepad++

Alternative XML editor
For XML editing , I prefer to use XML Copy Editor , an open source editor , with validation of DTD and XML. Available in different languages for Windows and Linux platforms.
