Greetings,
I am brand new to DS 6.9 and am preparing to install. We currently have 5 servers (Windows Server 2003 x64 Enterprise SP2) serving various purposes and 2 SANs. Each server has approx 70GB hardrives (12GB and C: and 58GB on D:) I have created 5 seperate 100GB volumes on our SANs. Our HD's came out of the factory partitioned 12:58 and needless to say our C: drives are running out of room. I have an application that can (in theory) resize our partitions without destroying the data or config but I obviously want to make complete backups before I try using it. A couple of questions:
1. Is DS 6.9 the appropriate tool for creating complete, recoverable backups that I can put on to my SANs while I try this resizing app?
2. Do I use DS as a manager (similar to SEPM) with which to implement jobs on my other servers?
Thanks in advance and...

CMDB and Asset Management Solution 6.5
When a custom class is created, the attributes within that class cannot be edited. The data type cannot be changed. An attribue cannot be deleted either.. The only way to make a change is to delete the whole dataclass and recreate with the new / changed desired attributes. This is very annoying and time consuming.
It will be much nicer if the custom data classes could be edited.

Our Altiris Helpdesk was working fine until the morning of October 12th when it stopped processing emails. The emails started stacking up in the Exchange inbox instead of being processed by Altiris. We see the following error in the Notification Server log:
Log File Name: D:\Program Files\Altiris\Notification Server\Logs\a.log
Priority: 1
Date: 11/20/2009 8:25:05 AM
Tick Count: 181226375
Host Name: Svr121
Process: w3wp.exe (8136)
Thread ID: 5124
Module: AltirisNativeHelper.dll
Source: AlertManager.ProcessInboxes
Description: Inbox processing exception: An unexpected error has occurred. NO The requested message could not be converted to an RFC-822 compatible format.
Any clues what might be at the root of this issue? Clearly something changed, but no one is admitting to purposefully changing anything.

I use PC Transplant 6.8 SP3 and lately I have been getting the following error "File I/O error while accessing s :s." I have several portable USB drives that when I run PCT it is scripted to backup the information to the portable drive. All the information is backed up, but these errors occur during the restore phase of the operations. I've checked for logs, errors, event viewer, etc. and have not found anything relating to this problem. The problems seem to occur in the same spot every time for each package during the restore, however i cannot find anything out of the ordinary with the folder/files where it errors out. I reverted to using a previous version of PCT to test and the error does not happen on any of the test scenarios. I'm not sure what is happening. I've tested the USB portables and they all check out just fine and also work using the previous PCT version.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Patch Management
Add the ability to configure software update tasks to install ASAP after the scheduled install time.
Currently, if a computer misses the schedule, it will not run / receive the update. If the schedule is 2 a.m. and the computer is always offline during this time, the computer will never receive the patch.
Cheers,
Peter

We are testing CMS7 in our lab environment and have encountered problems with WOL.
We are able to reboot and shut the pc down however we cannot "wake" it up.
The settings in the BIOS are correct and we can wake it up from the DS but not from the NS.
Any suggestions?

Has anyone had success imaging ubuntu from/to a first generation intel imac? The computer I'm cloning from works perfectly but when I take an image of it and then clone another intel iMac the former tries to boot and then just constantly writes 'grub' to the screen! I have tried using the -ib -nolilo -fmbr switches with no success. I'm sure this has something to do with using MBR over GPT but I just don't know how to solve it. HELP!

Hello out there,
is it just me or is it really a difficulty: Wise Installation Express 7.0. I want my MSI-Setup to run an Exe which is located in the same folder as the MSI.
How do I get this path? I had no luck with [SourceDir] or [OriginalDatabase] :-(
Background: I have a 600MB-Zip-File, which needs to be extracted after the setup has installed other things. I converted the Zip to a self-extracting Exe and just have to run it. I don't want to use "Execute Program From Installation", as this adds the Zip into my MSI and blows blows up my wsi to 650MB, which makes working with it very bulky and hard to manage. The MSI and the self-extracting Zip will be deployed on CD.
So I'm looking for a command to make my setup run the self-extracting Zip (Exe) which is located in the same drive/folder as the MSI itself, namely on a CD.
Regards from Munich!

Hi,
We are having a 32bit installer and we used to install in 64bit machines with the same 32bit installer. Now we want to have a 64bit installer.
For changing to 64bit installer, can i go and change the settings in 'Setup Editor > Product Tab > Summary Icon '. Under that Template Summary property to x64;1033, to change the installer to 64bit.
One more question is, Should i need to have two different projects for 32bit and 64bit? Or is it possible to have one project and by changing the settings, can we generate both 32bit and 64bit installer?
Thanks for the Help,
Panneer.

Hello all,
We just upgraded around 100 pc's from 256 MB to 1GB of RAM.
We just now tryed to push the image we used for some time to one of the upgraded machines but in the mini setup there is an error with something in the registry so i wont continue.
If we flip back the 256MB there isnt a problem with the image.
Any ideas about what can give such a problem?
Thank you!

Hi All,
A few weeks back my installation of Wise Installation System 9 started hanging when I tried to close the program. I can compile and work on scripts but when I try to close the program it hangs completely. If I open the task manager while it is hung it states tha that application is not responding. I tried un-installing and reinstalling the software but this has not corrected the issue. It doesn't matter if I open an existing script or open a fresh script the program never closes without the process being killed.
Please help!
Cheers,
Austin

I have a collection of data that I am trying to filter within an Ajax Dynamic Update Panel Component
The first Drop down list has all of the 'Materials' in it
The second list has all of the "Manufacturers' that make that material. So far so good!
The third drop down list has all the 'Colors' of that Material made by the selected Manufacturer. Based on the selection in the 'Manufacturers' drop list
The Materials and Manufacturers drop lists have the 'Post Form on Value Change' set to True but for some reason the Color drop list is only reading off of the 'Materials' selection.
I have used a Dynamic Model to filter through the collection of items to appear on each drop list and the workflow is sound.
Is there a limit to the number of Drop Lists that can Post the form (or Panel)? Am I losing ThisForm data when I am Posting?
I have even placed Ascii labels under each Drop list to...

Tried doing the most basic of tests I could think of.
Run script command with only contents being: pause
Boots into WinPE fine, then I get error 1 in the console and it boots back to production.
Can't get ImageX commands or anything else to run in WinPE either. :(

I'm having trouble understanding the relationship of some of the tables in Symantec_CMDB created by NS7.
Can you describe how ResourceAssociation and ResourceTypeHierarchy fit into the bigger picture?
I'm specifically looking at it from a Patch Management perspective and trying to understand the chain of relationships from a particular Bulletin, to a specific update, the inventory rules associated, etc.
Thanks,
Mitch

Hello all,
I have a server that acts as a common gateway for my support staff. All of our clients have PcAnywhere hosts running and our support server is only used to connect to these hosts using PcAnywhere client.
The support staff RDP's into the support server then starts PcAnywhere and remotes into other clients.
It works about 95% of the time without issue. The problem that I run into is that every once in a while the PcAnywhere connection is dropped and then the person that dropped the connection cannot reconnect while others on the same support server can.
Logging off of RDP then logging back in sometime corrects the problem. Other times, the support person needs to log off of the RDP session, reboot their PC then RDP back in an like magic they can connect again.
Has anyone ever experienced this problem? If so, was there a resolution that you found?
Here are the specs of the support server.
Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP2 with all...

(Pre-question: is there a better search than the single box labeled "Search forums"? I'd love to search just this forum but searching all forums rarely gets answers relevant here.)
I ship a product as a 64-bit merge module (also as 32-bit MSM but that's not at issue here.) Recently a customer is asking if they can use my 64-bit MSM in a dual-mode MSI, that is in a 32-bit MSI which includes 64-bit components. Is this likely to be possible? I'd always thought a 64-bit install required a 64-bit MSI, but the customer insists I'm wrong.
The customer says they can create a 32-bit MSI which includes 64-bit components. (The customer is also using WIS 7.) When they add my 64-bit MSM into their MSI, my files are installed to Program Files (x86) instead of to Program Files, so my custom actions don't find files where they expect. I can add code to check for WoW etc but don't want the hassle if this is an illegal way of doing things.
Thanks

Hello everyone. We've built an Office 2003 SWV layer in Win7, and for the most part, everything works wonderfully. However, if you open the thesaurus (the full blown side panel one, not the right click) it will take awhile ~5 minutes for the panel to appear. Any ideas what could cause this? Has anyone seen anything similarly?

Good morning,
I recently installed DS 6.9 and I cannot for the life of me access the webconsole. When i go to http://myserver/DSweb/default.aspx i'm prompted to sign in.
I try adminstrator account / local administrator account and the altiris service account I setup. I've tried my name in the form domain\username as well as just username with no luck. WHat must I do in order to sign in to the web console?!
I can access it from the regular console just fine... I would like the other technicians to access the console without logging into the server though! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
