Here's a different twist on the process described by Olliebean in his article about autocapturing applications into SVS layers.

This technique requires a tool (attached to this article) but is a tad bit simpler to pull off IMHO.

There is also a easy way to do this. Download the attached zipfile and extract it.

When you double click on it, it will create a new layer with the name of the currently logged in user and it will place a shortcut on the desktop.

Drag your executable in it, and the install will be captured inside the layer.

Many thanks to my colleague Mark Platte who created the autoIT script.

Frank,

It will capture while other layers are still active. It does not capture to the read only layer, but only to the read/write layer. If somethin goes wrong and you reset the layer, everything is gone.
Please be aware of this.

I should add that while you can "capture" while a layer is active to the read/write layer that there are some programs who's installers will not properly capture in SVS unless all layers are deactivate and a layer is set to capture mode--there is special logic we use to make sure everything does get captured that non-capture mode doesn't follow. The biggest offender here wold be any Install Shield installer.

So please be aware that if you are running an installer to an active layer that things could goto the base.

If a forum post solves your problem please flag is as the solution
