Automated Installation and Collection Configuration v1.0

May 20, 2008 06:07 PM

This is a tool that installs the Altiris NS Agent and then adds the local machine to specified collections.

This is a tool that can assist in distributed IT environments.

The ASDK is required to be loaded on the NS Server. It is not required on the client machines.

You can specify -c to create the encrypted configuration file or -i for the installation.

-c username password domain "AeXNSC.exe installation command lines parameters"

aicc.exe -c username password domain NSSERVER.MYDOMAIN.COM "-s -a ns=NSSERVER.MYDOMIN.COM
nsweb=http://NSSERVER.MYDOMAIN.COM/Altiris NOSTARTMENU NOTRAYICON OKTOREBOOT /s"

Be sure to include quotes around the command-line parameters

This creates a file called aicc.cfg in the current directory. This file is required when running with the -i parameter.

-i "COLLECTION NAME1,COLLECTION NAME 2"

aicc.exe -i "All Computers,My Collection,HRGroup"

Be sure to include quotes around the collection names and separate by a comma.

AICC-secure.exe is used for environments where you access the console via https on port 443 instead of http. Usage is the same.

The logged in user must have read and execute rights to the installer package located on your NS server. Locally logged in users might not have that so use your domain account.

It installs the Altiris agent using AeXNSC.exe located at this UNC path \\YOURSERVER.DOMAIN.COM\NSCap\Bin\Win32\X86\NS Client Package . Next it waits for the GUID to be created. It checks every 30 seconds for this. Each added dot represents 30 seconds. Once it is created it adds it to the specified collections and updates the membership on those collections.

So it automatically checks for the GUID and then adds it to certain collections which updates as it is added.
Thank you for this!

Where did you check for the Altiris Agent GUID? Detect with COM Object, check registry, check for a policy file....?

Hi Myel!
The /updatecollection option in Altiris Agent Booster is used to update a specific collection. You should then include all the collections you want updated in that collection, e.g. "Windows Computers WITHOUT Carbon Copy". This will make the CC Rollout task run on the client...
Hope it explains things

Hi,
I don't understand the collection updating, specifically which collections I should reference to update, and also which collections to include in the Altiris Agent Booster collection. For example, in the Altiris Agent Booster collection, should I add "Windows Computers WITHOUT Carbon Copy" and other WITHOUT collections so that the agents will check in and then immediately receive those packages? Or should these be the WITH collections for some reason?
Let me know if I need to explain further....I would like the Altiris Agent to install, immediately follow with all other agents (CC, SWD, Patch, etc.) and update the workstation collections so that our Site Support personnel may edit the Asset information before deploying the machine to the user (All Windows Computers collection).
Thanks everyone,
-myel

It does not require username/password. It runs under credentials you set on the server.
I have just released a new version and renamed it "Altiris Agent Booster". I will upload it to juice ASAP. If you want, I can mail it to you?

I actually like Screenbert's better.

I had no idea. That would have saved a lot of time. Does yours allow to run under a different set of credentials and encrypt them also?

Hi Screenbert!
You did not have to create this tool. It already exists; http://juice.altiris.com/download/
